20 year anniversary trip - January 2010

The tone of the trip was pretty much set after the 3 hour detour around the rock slide thru the snow and ice covered mountains. It seems to me that the real estate agent/property manager would inform the tenants that the main HWY 64 from the west had been closed for the last month and a half due to a rock slide...Unbelievable! Since we were totally unprepared until we got to Cleveland, TN we took a way too long detour around the north and it ended up being 3 hours longer. On the way home, since we were prepared for the detour, we took the south route around the rock slide and only went 30 minutes out of the way.
To cap off the trip, we had a full day of sightseeing planned for our last full day and we woke up to having no water. Apparrently a comode downstairs may have been running and drained the well dry. The agent did get someone out there to fix it, but it cost us another half day wasted.
The cabin itself was pretty nice and roomy and had nice views of the mountains. Too bad the other stuff had to ruin the trip for us though.
Owner's Response: Although we try to have everything in good shape, just like in our own home sometimes things just break. The well company did come out promptly, especially for a Sunday morning, once they were notified.
The rock slide happened months ago now, but we should let anyone reading this know that the road from Chattanooga TN, along the Ocoee river through the Cherokee National Forrest has been closed due to a rock slide and will remain so at least until the end of March, according to the Tenneessee Department of Transportation. When planning your route, you should avoid this area.
