October vacation stay

nsanchez Antioch, CA
Review Submitted: November 2, 2009 Date of Stay: October 2009
We recently stayed at this condo October 20st through the 25th. The pictures on the internet are nearly identical to the real thing. The condo was clean and very well furnished. The downside was that the pool was very, very cold. The bedroom near the ocean was extremely loud until you got used to but I would suggest if you are a light sleeper bring ear plugs for night time. Doris at the front desk was very helpful with eateries however she expressed that it is difficult to stay current on all restaurants. She told us one eatery, Republic Fajita, was closed yet when we went into town the eatery was not closed and we ended up eating there the next night. I am glad we decided to look ourselves. The phone connections a little problematic but we coped. Bring your own CD's as she has a great TV in which to listen to music or view your favorite tv cd on those days that the weather might not be cooperating. I would recommend this condo if you want to relax and be very close to the beach.

A Piece of Paradise

jddave Oshawa, Ontario, Canada
Review Submitted: October 25, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
The first thing we thought when we arrived at this condo was "Wow..this is Paradise". The unit is very nicely decorated with everything we needed, the bedrooms are far enough apart giving everyone privacy, and the balcony was well furnished along with a grill which we made good use of. I am a light sleeper and found the sound of the waves a bit loud at night, but used ear plugs which helped. The location and beach is great! We are ocean people and found the beach to be just what we were looking for...peaceful with no vendors and the water was amazing, you can even snorkel near the rocks to the south of the unit. There was hardly anyone at the building so we had the pool and beach pretty much to ourselves...another good reason to go off season. Yes there is a condo being built a couple of lots over, but we didn't find it a problem and they would stop working for a couple of hours mid day. We went around on the local bus and found it an experience as well as convenient and even took it south of the condo to visit a few of the local villages and to get the water taxi to Yelapa (worth the trip). The local people are very friendly and assisted us whenever needed, even if there was a language barrier they still tried to help or would find someone who spoke English, couldn't ask for more than that. The first week we did most of our grocery shopping at Rizzo's in Old Town as it was the closest to the condo, but did venture on 2 buses to Walmart for groceries the 2nd week....which takes about 45 min each way. Had most of our meals on the balcony with the beautiful views and fabulous sunsets. Why go to restaurants when you have the best seat on the balcony overlooking the ocean!! The weather was amazing with only 2 evenings when it slightly rained for a couple of hours and a few hours on our last afternoon. Couldn't have asked for better weather especially during rainy season...hot and humid but then again that's why you go south for some hot weather where you can cool off in the pool and ocean. Doris, Maria and the security guards were very helpful and friendly and we enjoyed getting to know them. Arlene called us each week to ensure everything was fine. Finally, I must say that we all had a wonderful 2 week vacation while staying at this beautiful condo...only wish we could have stayed longer...hated to leave and go home back to work and reality! We are still talking about our memorable time in Puerto Vallarta and hope to return in the future

A little piece of heaven

Review Submitted: October 13, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
We were fortunate enough to stay here for 10 glorious days end of Sept-Oct '09. The place far exceeded our expectations. This was our first time using "homeaway.com" or anything similar to that for planning our trips, we typically do cruises and book online. All the reviews I had read before booking were not only helpful and true The ocean at your front door was worth its weight in gold. Catching the bus just across the street and being dropped within walking distance of a grocery store was so convenient to be able to buy groceries for a couple days at a time. You can do as much or as little that you want. We went into town and booked a couple of tours with no hassle. The front desk/security was always courteous and helpful. I could go on and on. Bottom line is that you won't be disappointed. I am already trying to fit another visit into my schedule.

Mostly very good, BUT . . .

MusicMan53 Kansas City, Kansas
Review Submitted: October 8, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
. . . there is a high rise building under construction 2 lots down from this condo. The construction noise varied from mildly irritating to very annoying.

Condo: Very tastefully decorated. The bed we used (back bedroom) was very comfortable. The styrofoam inserts for the windows is an ingenious idea! The A/Cs did a great job of keeping the condo cool. The balcony deck is fabulous in view, size and amenities. Wonderfully done! The concrete couches with cushions in the living room look great, but are very uncomfortable to sit on for more than a little bit at a time. We were surprised to find that the TVs were connected to cable, but didn't have High Definition hooked up. The housekeeper did a very thorough job of cleaning the condo.

Condo receptionish/concierge: Doris was a consistently helpful asset for us. She insisted that we call her any time we needed help or information, regardless of what time it was. We took advantage of her offer on numerous occasions (and tipped her accordingly!). She helped us with everything from general questions to questions about taxis, busses and restaurants and shopping.

Transportation: The busses were as cheap as we were told (6 pesos), but we didn't consider them to be very safe based on the fact that the busses we rode on all had moderately to severely cracked windshields. One bus also had a large rust spot on the floor by the gear shift. It was so bad, we could literally see the street through the hole in the floorboard. It was also stiflingly hot in the busses. Taxis were quite a bit more expensive (80 pesos, usually), but worth every extra penny. We used taxis 10+ times with absolutely no problems at all.

Restaurants: La Piazzetta has astonishingly delicious food. Their beef medallion dishes are exceptional! Wow! Pipi's is a wonderful restaurant for food, service and atmosphere. We ate there twice and loved it! We were very pleasantly surprised and happy with Marazul (on the beach). We ate there 3 times. (The roving trinket vendors there were particularly bothersome there, though.) Lindo Mar was an excellent choice for breakfast. We had the Omelet "Lindo Mar" every time (shrimp, bacon and cheese), plus avocado. Wonderful!

If you decide to go, look forward to the beauty of the ocean, the sunsets and wonderful restaurants, but be prepared for the narrow streets with potholes, treacherous sidewalks, busses and many taxis without A/C, and a seemingly endless gauntlet of pushy trinket vendors.

We didn't want to leave!

Leslie & Wayne Santa Cruz, CA USA
Review Submitted: April 23, 2009 Date of Stay: April 2009
To begin, I should mention that we have stayed at a number of vacation rentals by owner throughout the USA, Canada, and Europe. For the most part they have been fine, but usually there are one or two small unexpected issues - perhaps the internet photos of the apartment are a bit deceptive, or the location might be not as great as advertised ... so we were anticipating the same with this condo.

We stayed at Casa del Rey for a week in mid April 2009, and we could not have asked for anything more. Everything either met or exceeded our expectations. From the moment we arrived, the staff at the front desk went out of their way to ensure that we were comfortable and that any questions we had were answered. (Doris, who is the manager, even personally showed us the way to the grocery store in town.)

The condo itself is lovely, very spacious, clean, and well appointed. If anything, it is even more appealing than the website photographs are able to convey. There is a light, airy feel to the very comfortable rooms, and the beachfront terrace is a great place to relax or to have a meal. We loved having the modern kitchen to prepare some great dinners ... there are enough dishes, pans, tools, and small appliances to allow the creation of just about anything one can imagine.

The bus into Puerto Vallarta stops right across the road, making it easy to venture into town ... but we actually enjoyed the beauty of the beach and the pool so much, we stayed close to "home" much of the time.

Arlene even called once to make sure we were comfortable and that everything was okay - which it certainly was. I think the only "bad" part of the vacation at Casa del Rey was having to leave at the end of our stay. We hope to return next year, and would recommend this condo to anyone looking for a great vacation.
