Disappointing for the money

The owner was responsive to our concerns. However, we felt the house was not well-maintained. Although the house was cleaned by a paid cleaner before we arrived, some aspects of cleaning had clearly been neglected for months. For example, we found both the bathtub and the water dispenser quite mildewed. Some of the "amenities" listed were missing, or only partially available. The bathtub did not drain well and it was sandy. Dirty pans were left in the dirty oven, dirty linens on the floor and under beds.
The beach near this property is beautiful, although it is a 10-15 minute walk from the house. The town is quiet, not overcrowded like some Jersey shore towns. Several of the local restaurants and stores were excellent.
Next time, I will look for a cleaner property, with a grill, porch/deck, and enclosed outdoor shower.
Owner's Response: The tenant arrived at the property at 11am in the morning. Contract clearly states that check in is at 3pm. They were very upset that their food was going to spoil if they didn't get in. My cleaning person was nice enough to let them in anyway so they could put their food away. Hmm maybe that explains why the linens were on the floor, the pans and the oven were dirty, and the shower had sand and mildew. My cleaning person has been with me for 3 years and I've never had a problem with them. They do a very good job. They also neglect to say that when they told me that the tv wasn't working that I immediately drove 1 hour to the shore to bring them the tv from my house only to find that it was a loose cable wire. My house has been completely renovated from top to bottom as stated in the ad. Everything is new. As for the beach being 15 minutes away this is also completly false. If it took them 15 minutes to get to the beach they must have walked the wrong way to get there. We are about 6 houses from the beach block. My advice to the tenants is next time read your contract, show up when your supposed to, put your food in a cooler (with ice) and you will get a clean property to vacation in. I take great pride in my property and these comments were not fair to me.
