This cabin is a unique place. It is available seasonally from late April 1-October 30. The setting is so that it backs up to two National Forest properties: The Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area and The Daniel Boone National Forest. The 1200 square foot cabin is the last property before entering Big South Fork Park . The cabin is available for rental SEASONALLY from April to November.
The view from the large, covered back porch is mountains and hills as far as the eye can see. The cabin is nicely equipped for 7 persons to stay in beds very comfortably. There is floor space for 4 more with 2 additional airbeds. The cabin has a covered front porch with a swing and a huge back deck overlooking the gorgeous view with lots of patio furniture and a grill for your enjoyment. Half of the back deck is covered.
There are 2 bedrooms. The one downstairs has a queen bed and the other is a huge lofted room with a memory foam king, a double bed and a twin bed in it, as well as lots of additional floor space in the lofted area for sleeping space (2 air mattresses are available for use). Full bathroom is upstairs off the lofted room. Downstairs in the large vaulted ceiling great room there is a sofa and love seat as well as other comfy seating.
There is a table for eating on the back deck. There are 2 kitchen tables inside - one in the dining area between kitchen and great room and one in the great room. CD player, TV and DVD player, with cable TV hookup, washer and dryer make this cabin very comfortable and accommodating.
Nearby in front of the cabin is a 4 plank oak with gates near the cabin and also directly off the road. There is accessibility off the road and also via a gravel driveway that comes right up to the side of the cabin. This is a wonderful place to come and be right in the face of thousands of acres of some of nature's finest playground.
The South Fork Branch of the Cumberland River is about 1.25 mile hike away boasting white water seasonally. Cabin is about 1/2 mile before Big South Fork Park Entrance on Hwy 742 (aka, Mine 18 Road) Historic Blue Heron Mining Camp Park boundary is 1 mile away and Blue Heron Campground is close by. This cabin is well loved and we enjoy sharing it with people.

Jamie and Lisa bought the property originally as a base for horseback riding but health problems have ended that activity. The cabin is a great getaway and we enjoy sharing with others. Nothing fancy but very comfortable and in such a unique setting where you can be a few miles from a grocery but feel like you are hundreds of miles away
The Owner purchased this cabin in 2002
Proximity to the forest and hiking, wildlife, peaceful setting, perfect getaway .
Quiet, safe, comfortable, beautiful surroundings
The owners use ATT cell phones, (formerly Cingular) and our cell phones work well at the cabin.
My husband & I stayed mid-October 2014. Fall was in the air. The cabin was centrally located to so many places, such as the Cumberland Falls, multiple lakes for fishing, & a Big South Fork train excursion. We're not much for hiking; However, there were easy trails that brought you to magnificent views of hills, water falls, & wildlife. The cabin could sleep several, whether a family getaway or the guys getting together for a fishing trip. The cabin is rustic, clean, had everything we needed to make breakfast/lunch/dinner, plenty of towels, had an outdoor grill that we used often, lots of books & games for a rainy day, huge front porch with a swing, large back deck with close to half with a roof covering to sit out when it rains or the hot sun is out to view the forest, & when you sat inside, you could look out any window & get only a view of nature, not paved streets. Late for offering the review simply because fall turned into Thanksgiving, then Christmas, & then the New Year. We would stay again.
Tremendous hikes and breathtaking natural beauty in the immediately surrounding areas, and the cabin itself has a wonderfully secluded feel. We'll be back.
What a lovely cabin to "get away"!!!!! Away from the hustle and bustle.....great scenery, quite.....Loved staying there! Highly recommend!
We had the good fortune to spend three nights at the cabin. Everything was clean, everything was provided. Quiet and serene. Highly recommend, plenty of beds, clean linens and very roomy for even a large gathering. Great central location to see all the falls and parks.
We drove down from Wisconsin on a short trip and stayed 2 nights at the cabin. It was a lot of fun, the cabin was clean and beds were comfy. The deck off of the back of the house was definitely the highlight, we relaxed out there all day! Lisa was very helpful and accommodating. The cabin driveway was a little difficult to find in the dark, I would recommend arriving during daylight or asking very detailed questions about how to spot the entrance ahead of time. We will be back!
Needs circle drive & level turn-around area. Access & parking for three vehicles was dicey with the heavy rain we experienced. The cabin was a little tight for three families but would be fine for two couples. We may return in the fall with another couple. We all enjoyed the cabin. I suggest more pictures for a better understanding of the layout. A great area to visit.
