You deserve a secluded restful vacation in the Smoky Mountains. This is the perfect site for family reunions or groups of friends to gather! Enjoy nature and all it has to offer deep in the Appalachian Mountains and the Cherokee National Forest in Tennessee, 22 miles east of Vonore & Tellico Plains in the vast Citico Wilderness Area.
The Cottage at Hemlock Grove, located only 50 minutes from I-75 or the Knoxville Airport, tucks you away in extreme privacy and luxury in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains. Located in a private hollow on 300 acres you can immerse your senses in all that Nature has to offer. Spend days exploring streams, old growth forests, an old mountaineer homestead, and expansive, unspoiled views after hiking to a private mountain top ridge. This is a true Tennessee mountain experience without roughing it!
For its remoteness, this upscale cottage is surprisingly close to many attractions. Bring your jet-skis or boat and enjoy Tellico and Chilhowee Lakes. Boat ramps are just a few miles away. Abundant trout run in gorgeous, rushing, Citico Creek just minutes away. The Citico forest service road runs along the creek for twenty magnificent miles through the Cherokee National Forest to the breathtaking Cherohala Skyway (Hwy 165) and Indian Boundary Lake.
Thirteen trails, within the National Forest, totaling 57.4 miles provide access to much of Citico Creek Wilderness. For a fun day trip, Dollywood and the other attractions of Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg are less than two scenic hours away (76 miles). Scenic drive enthusiasts will love the proximity to the 'tail of the dragon' or Highway 129 to Deal's Gap.

We are based in Atlanta but have two vacation rentals in Monroe County Tennessee.
Lee purchased this cottage in 2000

It's peaceful and quiet, extremely remote, far from the nearest big city or town. It's perfect for getting away from it all. Visitors are astounded at the remoteness and privacy. Read More in the Comment Section
Were do I start? First of all the house was awesome!! Very clean and lots of room and we loved the remote location. Our kids had lots of things to do and never once said they were bored! We enjoyed the hot tub the fires at night. I never knew there was that many stars out at night! Lots of things to do in the area - trails right outside your door; beautiful views. The lakes were great. Our family has been to a few vacation homes over the years and I would have to say this ranks as one of the best we have ever been to!! I recomend this place for someone who just wants to get away from it all! We will be back in the Fall! Thank you Pat and Lee for sharing with us this little piece of heaven!! Love the welcoming music and your gift basket!
Everything was so new and roomy. Six big bedrooms and three full baths all new all nicely decorated. The owner is a gentleman who made us feel so welcome.
We had 10 family members for a thanksgiving getaway and we were very happy with the facilities. We include 6 teenagers and they really enjoyed the bunkhouse with the pool table so they could get away from boring adults and do their own thing. It took everyone a while to get used to having no cell phone or internet access but I think it turned out good to force us to get away from the noise. We went on only one hike of the trails but they were great and well marked.
Our family of 9 certainly enjoyed our stay at Hemlock Grove. The house was super clean, tastefully decorated and well-equipped. The owners are very helpful and pleasant to work with. The separate sleeping areas in the main house made for easy and comfortable accommodations for all our combinations of adults, kids, and grandkids. The property IS remote, and just what we were looking for- a chance to leave our busy lifestyles and cell phones behind. Grown up and kids enjoyed playing board games, cards, exploring, hiking, cooking, building fires, roasting marshmallows. Wonderful views along the trails and a bit of local history in the surrounding area and among the older structures. This is a wonderful place for families to relax and reconnect. Thanks Lee!!
We decided to visit a part of the USA we had never seen before for our 2013 holiday and booked two weeks in Tennessee, one of which was at Hemlock Grove. And we were not disappointed!
Lee was extremely helpful in advance of the holiday, answering my numerous questions about airports, car hire, things to do and the property itself. I often got a comprehensive response within a few hours of asking a question. I felt I knew both the local area and the property before we left England. There were no unpleasant surprises when we arrived. Just things to delight us!
Hemlock Grove is tastefully and thoughtfully furnished, clean, and well equipped. A real home from home.
Before arriving at Hemlock Grove I was slightly concerned that our 3 children would quickly get bored (ages 15, 14 and 11), especially because the first week of our vacation was in the hustle and bustle of a city. But it all turned out fine! The property has masses of space (giving everyone privacy when they want it), plenty of character, land to explore and a hot tub and fire pit to keep the children occupied. Further afield we loved swimming at Indian Boundary lake (forget the marked boundaries of the swimming area - simply swim from one side of the lake to the other), visiting Fort Loudon, driving and stopping on the Cherohala Skyway, driving and gawping in the Great Smoky Mountains, seeing black bears with cubs by the side of the road!, walking across the Fontana Dam, finding some nice cafes along the way with great views etc. My wife and I also took pleasure in the little things like the delightful Sloans store in Vonore (really nice, friendly and chatty staff), bird and butterfly spotting in the garden and taking regular runs (slogs) through the local woods.
We had a great family holiday in Tennessee - for anyone reading this in England: "go on, give Florida a miss. Get away from your fellow Brits for a couple of weeks and visit Tennessee or another State off the UK tourist map". Thank you USA! Thank you Lee!
Our desires to relax and reconnect with family were met at this remote retreat. The comfortable, welcoming, roomy environment was a great place to unwind and hang out. The owners and caretakers were extremely accommodating and helpful. Many thanks for the memories!
I rented the Cottage at Hemlock Grove with the bunkhouse for a week of motorcycle riding with 13 friends over the Independence Day period. The listing is spot-on. Although it rained almost continuously most of the week, we had a great time. We even got a little riding in. It's about 20-30 miles to either the Cherohala Skyway (Tellico Plains) or the Northwest side of the Dragon's Tail (US 129). So many other great rides and activities in this area! Foothills Parkway, Blue Ridge Parkway, Harrah's Cherokee Casino, Gatlinburg Tennessee, rafting on the Nantahala, and tons of great fishing. I highly recommend a visit to the Wheels Through Time motorcycle museum in Maggie Valley, NC, though it's a bit of a drive. The property is clean, well stocked/maintained, and comfortable. You need only to bring food and clothing. VERY secluded and peaceful.......Well off the beaten path and about 20 miles from the nearest store. Leave your electronic leash at home. Perfect getaway for larger groups and families. Great value. The last 4-5 miles of paved road leading to Hemlock Grove is really hilly and curvy (it's the REAL dragon's tail -challenging on a motorcycle when it's wet). But everyone in our party made it in and out safely and we had a blast! Especially enjoyed using the deck and spacious grill on the 4th of July. Great experience with the owner - informative and helpful.
Private Hiking on 300 Acres, National Forest Hiking/fishing/Hunting, Amusement Parks (Dollywood), Antiqueing (Sweetwater) Fishing, Museums (Sequoya, Lost Sea), Swimming in Nearby Tellico Lake and Chilhowee Lake, Tubing on Citco Creek, Fort Loudon State Park and beach, Relaxing and reading too. All are WELCOME!
