Sandwood Villas was a perfect place for my husband and I and our grown children (& 2 grandchildren) to celebrate an important birthday. The ocean and villas were beautiful; and snorkling in the Great Mayan Reef was spectacular. We learned more about the Mayan history and culture than we could have in any university. Many somewhat recently discovered ruins are accessible by car.
It is important to have access to a vehicle, as there is no public transportation. A grocery truck comes by with wonderful fresh produce every other day.
Bring plenty of money, as there are no banks or functional ATMs within 60 miles or so, and credit cards aren't accepted most places. They also prefer pesos to U.S. dollars.
This is not a place for people who like fast paced life....no jet skiis, casinos, or golf courses. This is a place for people who love wild places, where you might see a jaguar and a boa in the same day. We loved it. The people who own the villas are wonderful people, fun to talk to, & to hear about their amazing experiences.
Ask the owners how to avoid being scammed by the Mexican police.
