South Padre, Texas Condo

Date of Stay: June 2008
My entire family spent the week at this condo- 7 adults and a 3 month old, June 2008. I will begin with the owners of the condo-Meg and Loren, they were excellent with answering questions and emails. Very helpful and kind, even gave me pointers for the trip. They returned my phone calls and emailed me with any info we needed. The place is EXACTLY as shown, more than enough room for everyone to cook meals and eat together, rest and watch the fabulous flat screen tv's. The condo was clean, all appliances new, and in excellent working order. There is a washer and dryer in suite which made it very convenient for us, the refrigerator was huge, ice maker, dishwasher, large pantry, electric range, microwave, dishware, cooking pots and even a baby bed. Our rooms were huge, and very comfortable clean beds and pillows. The master suite was OUT OF THIS WORLD! The beach is approx 5 min walk down one very small and non-busy street. The condo was quiet, an awesome private pool in the back. There is a free shuttle on the Island that takes you the length of the island as well as to neighboring Post Isabel. There are many curio and beach ware shops all with in walking distance, there are many-many fresh seafood restaurants as well as chain restaurants within walking distance. I was very surprised to see whole families with kids walking the city at night eating and shopping. Local police is highly visible, and the Island is about 14 or so drivable miles in length. There are two main roads that are parallel, but many side streets. The Island is filled with resorts, but after researching all the options, the condo was the BEST deal, as we were able to cook our meals together and just fellowship with the famly. There is a Wal-Mart in Port Isabel (about a 10 minute drive across the Queen Isabella Causeway) as well as a chain food store HEB.
I HIGHLY reccomend eating at Blackbeard's restaurant- my daughter and brother-in law went deep sea fishing one day and caught 22 lbs of fresh snapper. Blackbeards cooked the fish 5 different ways and all we paid for was the sides (around 7 USD per person) the restaurant is pretty busy but worth the wait. The island also has snorkeling, horseback riding, spa-massage service, moped drives, and "buggy" carts. The deep sea fishing was unbelievable. There is also plenty of sand to rest and catch some rays, very clean easily accessible beaches. Also Mexico is a short drive away, less than an hour, we went for a day on our way back home.
