Welcome to Mountain Laurel Cottage on Norwich Lake. Available May 15-Oct.15. You'll feel as though you've been transported back to a simpler time when you step from the huge screened porch into the open living area with fieldstone fireplace. Living area flows into the original 1947 retro kitchen complete with modern appliances. Two bedrooms with two twin beds that can be put together to make a king. The living area has a trundle bed couch which opens to a queen or separated for twins. The porch has 3 loungers and a daybed. One bath with large shower. The cottage is set up and back from the dirt road on over an acre of land with amazing sunset views over the Berkshire Mountains. The lake is behind the cottage, a quick drive or 10 minute walk to the lakefront and private dock with a canoe and paddle boat. You'll be inspired for many outdoor activities! Or relax on the porch with a good book or one of the many games or puzzles as there is no TV, just a radio/CD player and piano.
Lake activities: Many hiking trails and amazing views. The lake is pristine and fairly quiet especially during the week, you may be one of just a few folks out on the water. Weekends get a bit busier but never crowded. Swimming, boating, fishing or just floating away the afternoon. Hampshire YMCA in Northampton operates Camp Norwich on the lake with week long day camp programs for kids. You relax while the kids splash the days away.
Close attractions.: The lake is only 20 minutes from Northampton, a thriving university town and cultural center offering theater, the arts, antiquing and the best dining found anywhere. Spa services are available at many local shops. It is only 35 minutes from Lee and Lenox, home of Tanglewood, great antiquing also and shopping outlet.
great retreat: Mountain Laurel is 20 minutes from Smith College and 40 minutes from Amherst College and UMASS Amherst. 45 minutes to Mount Holyoke and Hampshire Colleges making it a nice place for summer students. Or a quiet writers retreat.
This was a return visit to the Mountain Laurel Cottage for myself and 4 of my "Turkey Hunting Buddies". Once again we had an awesome time and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and our stay. The cottage was just as we remembered it. Quiet nights and a warm fire with friends telling stories (and maybe a few white lies) about hunting adventures. The cabin was just perfect for us. It was clean and comfortable. Once again Chad and Denise couldn't have been more accomodating. Definitely a place to keep in mind for Fall Deer season too.
First off, the cottage is just lovely. The pictures do not do it justice. It has a rustic old-time feel to it and it is much much larger than the pictures make it look. There are lots of beds and it is clean and cozy. We wished there was at least one queen sized bed, but we had a bit of a good time putting two beds together and occasionally slipping through them in the middle of the night (I guess we are easily amused that way). We brought our three dogs with us and they just loved it, too.
It's a little hike to the water, but it has a private dock, row boat, canoe and more. Lots of little amenities that make it so comfortable regardless of the hike downhill (which we did not mind at all; we would alternate between driving down and walking down with the dogs).
The owners, Denise and Chad, are just two of the loveliest people we've met. The emails and conversations I exchanged with Denise before getting there made me know early on that she would be great. But once we got there we were just delighted by how friendly and accommodating both she and Chad were. Just lovely people. Wish we had more of them here in Brooklyn!
I highly recommend staying here. You will truly enjoy it!
Spent a wonderful week with my family at Moutain Laurel Cottage listening to the sounds of the birds on the screened-in porch. The cottage was charming yet efficient, with everything we needed for a comfortable and relaxing getway from the frantic pace of NYC. Homeowners, Denise and Chad couldn't have been more pleasant and accomodating. The local lake was a perfect spot to chill out, yet in 20 minutes we were strolling passed the restaurants, boutiques and galleries of Northampton. And as others have already mentioned, the fireplace was the best!
Had a really wonderful time at "The Mountain Laurel Cottage". Denise and Chad couldn't have been more accommodating. The place really is as described on the website. It's a quaint, country cottage that is quiet and peaceful. There's a rustic comfort about the place that makes it truly enjoyable. Definitely conducive to taking a step back, and slowing down. Make sure to check out the sunsets from the open field in front of the cottage. Really spectacular. Thanks again to the owners for their hospitality on a much needed break.
We had such a great stay last year that we rebooked again this year. Our stay was even better than last year. Meeting the owners Denise and Chad again, as well as the neighbors, was like coming home. There is a real easy and relaxed atmosphere to the cottage and area that our return was a done deal. We are making it an anual trip not to be missed!
Mountain Laurel Cottage was just right for our getaway. We were the first guests of the year at the beginning of the season, Denise and Chad, our hosts, were very attentive to the conditions , ensuring the firewood was restocked daily as well as the utilities, etc. It was great to be as out of touch as we wanted to be with the quiet cottage feel. We are rebooking for 2013!
