On a private half-acre backing onto a nature trail, our spacious remodeled retreat is a short walk to Asilomar beach, the most beautiful beach on the Monterey Peninsula. The great room has soaring ceilings, a spacious dining area, a kitchen bar and couches looking on to the gardens. The cozy living room has a wood-burning fireplace and couch with a fold out bed. The four bedrooms all have French doors opening onto the grounds. This retreat also has a game room, with an air hockey table, a computer, and a library about area attractions. This home’s lounging spaces and chef’s kitchen will tempt you to hibernate. Yet we also provide a 30-page guide with our insights about the best walks, the best local restaurants, and fun things to do when you venture out.
Walk a few blocks from the retreat to the Asilomar State Park and beach entrance. From there, you may stroll the beach and miles of coastal paths. We are walking distance to the beginning of 17-mile drive, one of the most scenic drives in the world and to the Monarch Sanctuary, where thousands of monarch butterflies winter after their migration from Canada. Downtown Pacific Grove, with its quaint shops and excellent restaurants, is a 6-minute car ride away. Downtown Monterey is 11-minutes away while the Monterey Aquarium is just 8 minutes away. Nearby Lovers Point offers a protected sandy beach, great for kids, swimming, and snorkeling. And downtown Carmel is a 15 minute drive.
Our home is private, light, and lovingly cared for. It is a perfect place for you to relax, reconnect with family and friends, and explore the Monterey Peninsula.

What a great retreat for families. With 4 children under the age of 6, we couldn't ask for more. Very comfortable, without being too fancy for the kids. Fenced in yard is great for kids and pets. They almost had as much fun in the yard as they did the beach. ALMOST. The beach is close and could walk if not so much beach toys, chairs, blankets, etc. Easier to drive. The Aquarium tickets are always a hit for all ages. We don't go out to dinner too much. Too expensive for large groups. Love BBQ's and spaghetti dinners together. Feel at home here.
We recently stayed here, sharing with three other families who all have kids under the age of ten, and we all had a wonderful time. My son had his 5th birthday there this weekend and is already lobbying for us all to come back next year and do it again.
There is enough space for many kids to run around while still being watched. Our kids played hide and seek, built forts, and explored the spacious backyard. We were able to prepare meals for a large group of people and the central location and spaciousness of the kitchen and the counter makes this house perfect for families/groups who like to cook and eat together. There is also a separate room with a television so that a movie or show can be watched without dominating the environment.
It is close enough to a beautiful beach (Asilomar) that we were able to walk there every day and let the kids have sand play. The neighborhood is quiet and one of the neighbors on the street told me how nice it was to see young kids walking. There were also frequent deer sightings, which was fun for our suburban kids.
The heat works well and quickly. On those cold and overcast coastal days it still feels cozy and warm indoors. All of us brought our devices and were able to use the house wifi to keep connected to the net.
There is a commercial strip about a mile away with a Trader Joe's and a Safeway, as well as other restaurants ans stores, so it is quite convenient for meal planning and procurement. In the other direction, downtown Pacific Grove is only a few minutes away for that cuter "boutique" experience. The Aquarium is only ten minutes or so away by car too.
Overall, we parents were refreshed at the end of the weekend and felt grateful for the opportunity to connect with each other in a deep way. The kids loved it. We ate well, played games, did puzzles, gossiped, shared our lives, went on runs and bike rides, and felt gratitude that we were able to take a break for our busy lives to be together. Getting us all together in one place was the most important thing, but the location and the house space itself also helped facilitate our great multi-family getaway.
We had the BEST time in this wonderful, spacious home: 4 rooms are divided into two separate sections of the house: So parents with children can invite their single friends along without having to worry. I didn't hear a peep out of the 1 year old sequestered with his parents in the other section of the house (separated by the large living/dining room and kitchen), so I woke up refreshed and ready to walk down to the beach that was only 10 minutes away,..I don't know about the parents. But ah well.....
The beds are comfortable, the space was in pristine condition, hot water and shower pressure is great (all things that really do make a difference after you've been frolicking in cold waves all day). The house is quiet and on a huge plot of land that a pup would enjoy as well. The dog we brought flat-out refused to leave the house at the end of its stay. We could all relate, though.
Be sure to take advantage of the huge kitchen and cook your meals here. The island seats 7, and one of my favorite moments here was cooking together like one big, happy, disfunctional group. The oven took us a while to figure out since it's a gas oven and I thought you had to light it....but it turns on a few moments after you turn the knob. Fatijah and Monica were super helpful, and always readily available to answer any questions we had - Including how many geniuses does it take to turn on an oven? Thanks so much, guys!
We hope to make it back!
Our family had a wonderful vacation at the Asilomar Ocean Retreat. You could tell that care and attention had been put into the home. The furniture was comfortable and the house layout was perfect for our needs, with a central gathering space as well as spacious private bedrooms.
The owner mailed us a detailed information booklet before we arrived and also left brochures and tourist guides at the house for us – as well as aquarium passes.
The house, which is nestled in a quiet neighborhood, is walking distance to the beach and has a huge backyard, backing onto a nature trail.
We had a great vacation and we will definitely be back!
What a perfect beach house! The property feels like a true secluded getaway, with a lovely outdoors, and only minutes from the beach. The house was very comfy, nicely furnished, spacious and light – a wonderful place for us to hang out and reconnect. We cooked some great meals in the open kitchen/living area.
The beach was a short walk, and downtown Pacific Grove was just a few minutes drive. We really appreciated the aquarium passes and used them several times during our stay.
After a day at the beach, the kids were always happy to come home and play in the rambling back yard. And at night we sat around the fire swapping stories.
Thank you for a wonderful week!
WOW... this home is really really nice. So clean, and so well appointed. It was just myself and my Labrador Retriever ("Mr. Wilson") and we had the BEST time! The kitchen is equipped for cooking, which i did the entire time, and such a wonderful home to entertain in. Walks to the beach, or to downtown PG to get a coffee and a newspaper.... this place is so perfect for a relaxing vacation. I am a local here, and i chose this home while mine was going thru a renovation. I LIVE in California and this home made me feel like i was on vacation. Don't hesitate. This is your next place to visit! (The beds are GREAT!)
We are a block from the Asilomar entrance. Walk through to the beach. From there you can walk for miles on the ocean footpath or spend the day on Asilomar Beach which is perfect for surfing or tide pooling. Nearby Lover’s Point is a protected sandy cove, ideal for snorkeling or swimming. We are near the beginning of 17 mile drive, one of the most scenic drives in the world. Downtown Pacific Grove, with its quaint shops and an abundance of excellent restaurants, is a short car or bike ride away. Carmel and its numerous attractions is also very close, while a little further afield is the wild beauty of Point Lobos or of Big Sur. (you will find books of hikes at our house)
