Enjoy stunning views of Maui's beauty from this luxury 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom condo. It's located near the Maui Ocean Center (aquarium) in Maalaea, just 15 minutes from the airport. The condo is at Kanai A Nalu, one of the only resorts in Maalaea with direct access to the beach. It's a ground-floor unit, so you're just 50 steps away from the ocean, giving you easy access to miles of secluded, sandy beach.

The interior is beautifully decorated with ceramic tile flooring, carpeted bedrooms, granite kitchen counters, tasteful island furnishings, and a unique tropical print on one wall. Fully equipped kitchen, and all linens are provided.

For your enjoyment, we provide three high-definition TVs: a 47-inch LCD in the living room, a 37-inch LCD in the master bedroom, and a 32-inch LCD/LED in the 2nd bedroom. The complex provides free wireless internet, but it's non-secure and often slow. I've gone the extra mile by offering my own wireless network. It's reliable, password-protected, and free.

About Daniel Gilly

I've always loved warm weather, so Hawaii seemed like a natural fit. After I moved to Northern California in the '90s (from the East Coast), I took my first vacation to the islands. After a few more trips, I decided I'd be returning often enough to make it worth having my own place. I picked Maui because it has a good mix of natural beauty and touristy things to do. The photo shows me standing on the path that separates Big Beach from Little Beach.

Why Daniel Gilly chose Maalaea

Maalaea is considered the hidden gem of Maui. It's less developed than the better-known locations, which means it's less populated and relatively quiet. Maalaea is centrally located, too. Less than 20 minutes from the Kahului Airport, and halfway between the west side (Lahaina and Kaanapali) and south side (Kihei and Wailea) of the island. The harbor is just 5 minutes down the street, so it's easy to do any of the harbor activities like snorkeling, whale watching, or sunset cruises.

What makes this condo unique

My condo unit is on the ground floor, so you're only steps away from the (heated) pool or the beach. And you can park your car right outside my front door, which makes it convenient when you're ready to go out and about. During winter, you might see humpback whales in Maalaea Bay. My unit has wireless high-speed internet for those travelers who like to stay connected while they're away.

Great condo and great location!

This condo is exactly what we were looking for for our stay on Maui! The location is very central and it is easy to get anywhere on the island from here: the airport/grocery shopping, Hana Hwy, Mt. Haleakala, Lahaina and beyond, and Kihei. The condo itself was great! Very clean with views of your car on one side and views of the pool and ocean on the other. Bathrooms were large and very clean. All windows may be opened for great breezes through the condo. We stayed 4 nights and only turned on the air conditioning 1 time for 1 hour to cut down some humidity. The owner was great to work with, responded quickly to emails, and his email with instructions sent before the trip was detailed and so helpful! Condo has everything you may need including dishes, linens, beach towels, boogie board, ice packs, cooler, beach umbrellas, and sand toys. Toiletries' that were provided were hand soap, dish soap, laundry detergent, and dishwasher detergent. There was also sunscreen but that may have been left by a previous renter. The condo complex seemed busy with families and kids were quite loud out by the pool during the day and early evening. However, things definitely seemed quiet by 10pm (except on New Year's Eve, not surprisingly), quiet hours and we never were kept awake at night by noise. The beach the condo complex on is great! You can walk a long way and it's pretty nice and sandy!

The nearby village of Ma'alaea was very cute with several restaurants, tourist/gift shops, and a little craft market with locals selling their craft items (pearl, stone, shell jewelry, soaps, and beach wraps and bags). There is also a branch of the Pacific Whale Foundation there where you can book boating excursions. We did the full day snorkeling and whale watching cruise, which was fantastic! We did not join the PWF but we did book online to save a small percentage on tickets. We also drove to Kihei one evening for dinner, which was a fairly quick drive. Pick up all the free brochures at the airport for lots of coupons for excursions, restaurants, and snacks. Also, check out excursion companies online, as they often offer discounts if you book online. We did this with the ziplining company Skyline Eco-Adventures Ka'anapali. Another great experience (note: don't buy the pictures ahead of time if you want them...just buy one set when you have finished your zip-lining)!

Ideal location for beauty and convenience

We stayed at this unit in Kanai a Nalu for 5 days and loved it - this was our first time in Maui. The place had everything we needed in the kitchen and in terms of linens and towels, and arrangements for arrival through leaving were smooth. There is plenty of room too. It gets a nice breeze, especially using the front and back screen doors, and sitting on the lanai was nice. The pool was just perfect too, with a great view as you relaxed.

The beach it's on is lovely - one you can go for long walks on. You see endless ocean, the sun, south Maui, and islands in the distance. There was a small reef which suprised us with a turtle feeding there one evening. The water had few waves and was perfect for swimming. The beach gets wind in the evening, which was refreshing.

We were so close to the harbor and able to get a get a few things there as well as have a fun, reasonable dinner with great fish tacos and ribs. We were also in a great location for trips to Kihei for groceries, to Lahania for entertainment, and to many spots to enjoy the natural beauty - Iao Needle, Road to Hana, and snorkeling and beaches on the northwest and southwest coasts.

There were no concerns, nothing to change - just perfect.

Fantastic Place for a Family Holiday

The booking process through VRBO was really simple, Daniel was great to deal with, he responded very quickly to my questions, eased my mind about the wind in the area (I was told that Ma'alaea was very windy and we wouldn't like it.) and sent me links to some of the reviews of his property. So, never having done VRBO before, I was a little hesitant, but took the plunge. We were not disappointed.

Daniels place is only about a twenty-five minute drive from the airport (across the island). It is located down Hauoli Street (the name of the street means Happy) that runs from where the Aquarium is, along the ocean for about four blocks. We arrived late at night and were greeted with the scent of Night Jasmine the minute we walked up to the condo's front door. The directions provided, the keypad method of entry and other instructions from Daniel were very clear. The condo was a good size for a family of four (two adults and two children). It had two full bathrooms which were between the bedrooms, giving everyone some privacy. Everything was spotless. The kitchen was newly renovated and fully stocked with all the cutlery and crockery you

could need.

We were all exhausted so went to bed, and yes, the beds comfortable. In the morning we awoke to the breeze blowing through our window and the sound of the ocean. I went outside and walked the few steps past the pool to the waters edge. It was paradise. A gentle breeze was blowing, the water was warm and the beach was empty. I love it. When I returned to the condo, I took some time to check it out further. It had everything you could need for a day at the beach, chairs, mats, umbrella's boogie boards, towels, you name it. Daniel had thought of everything.

I love this place, it wasn't fancy, but it felt like being at home. I loved the metal screen in the front that you could lock and that way the breeze flowed right through the unit. The kids loved the WiFi and the Television. We only used the AC once, but used the dishwasher regularly as we ate there a lot. It was so peaceful to wake up in the morning and not worry about where to go for breakfast.

10 days of heaven

First let me say that Daniel was an amazing host. Everything from the condo description to the information package he sent us was nothing short of perfect. The condo, the supplies, the beach and the village were exactly as described. From our patio door it it took exactly 50 steps to the edge of the ocean where we were in awe of fabulous sunrises, sea turtles by the dozen, both calm water for our toddler and waves big enough to boogie board and surf. The condo was clean and well maintained. All the appliances were in top working order and I can't begin to explain how great it it was to park right in front of the door. The lanai has a table that easily seated four and had shade all day. From the lanai we were able to watch the kids in the extremely well maintained courtyard and the clean heated pool. Beside the pool are very clean Weber bbq's for all your grilling needs or to just chit chat to your neighbours about the day's activities. We really liked the location of condo as well. While not in the middle of resort town, we were no more than a half hour drive to most locations, no matter which direction we traveled. The thing that struck us the most about staying at Daniel's home was just that, it felt like home. After a long day of sight seeing and driving to Hana and back, all we could think about was getting 'home' to relax and put our feet up. Would I do it again? you bet. One word of advice if you are going and plan on booking a lot of day trips, go to the village first and the Pacific Whale Foundation store. If you buy a family membership there you will receive a free pizza, a store discount and discounts on any activity you book. We found this out on the final day (doh!).

To anyone thinking about contacting Daniel, I can't say enough about how helpful, thoughtful and courteous he was. When we are ready to go again or if we have friends who are going, Daniel will be our first call.

Fabulous place to stay!

We loved this condo - my husband and I came here end of Oct 2012 to meet up with some friends who were also staying in the same building. We had a wonderful time, location is great, beach area is lovely and we will definitely return & when we do we will stay here again for sure! The condo owner was great with us, very prompt with emails, great to make our arrangements with. Very happy.
