The house has water on three sides, with incredible views of Little Deer Isle and up Eggemoggin Reach towards Pumpkin Light and Cape Rosier. Five bedrooms sleep 12, with three bathrooms upstairs, a central shower, and one bathroom downstairs. An open floor plan includes a fantastic kitchen, dining room, and living room centered on a large granite fireplace. 250 acres of land and almost a mile of shore frontage surrounding a private cove make this one of the most remarkable properties still intact along the coast. Four generations of the Waterman family have loved and cared for this place. It is peaceful, extraordinarily beautiful, and private in a way that is increasingly difficult to find. The Punch Bowl does not have television or DSL, and cell service is unpredictable. It does have amazing sunsets, its own beach and private anchorage, bald eagles and seals, several pairs of osprey that fish in the mornings and evenings, and magnificent porches that are perfect for sitting.

Nearest Airport: Bangor at 50 Miles
Nearest Motorway: Rt.15 toward Deer Isle at 1 Miles
Car: necessary
Access by air is through Bangor International Airport (1 hour away by car), Bar Harbor Airport (50 minutes away by car) or Portland International Airport (2 ½ hours by car). From Boston it is a 5 hour drive, from NYC 8 ½ hours. A country store is 5 minutes away on Rt. 15, more extensive shopping is available in Blue Hill, a 15 minute drive, and Ellsworth, a 30 minute drive. Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park are an hour away. Located on the eastern side of Penobscot Bay, just before the bridge over to Deer Isle, The Punch Bowl looks out on Eggemoggin Reach, a favorite destination for New England sailors. The Bay is dotted with beautiful islands, and schooners from Camden and Rockland are a common sight from the house as they work around Deer Isle.

Notes: After losing the original house to fire twelve years ago, the Waterman family has gradually rebuilt the existing house. It is about 95% finished, lacking only some finish trim upstairs. Fires in the fireplace need to be treated with respect and care. It's a rare property, surrounded by water as well as 250 acres of its own land on all sides. It is screened from as much of the world as you might wish to leave behind. If an amazingly private, serene, and quiet place in a beautiful part of the world is what you're looking for, the Punch Bowl is pretty hard to beat.
