Islesboro is a unique island community which has about 1000 year round residents. Summer residents bring the population to about 3000. The island is about 12 miles long. Ryder's Cove is a special neighborhood where you can be as private or social as you like. Many families have been coming to Ryder's since the early 1900's. Often during the day the dirt road will be brightened with children biking, people exercising and walking their dogs. The island offers lots of opportunity for recreation from a town run sailing program (all welcome - just pass a swimming test and begin to sail or sign on for lessons), to athletic camps, hiking programs, tennis, golf, a sportsman club and more. In addition to the beaches of Ryder's Cove, a short drive opens up many more beach and water opportunities. There are two marinas on the island and two general stores. Several area lobstermen will deliver to your door. Our cottage comes with a deep sea mooring which you are welcome to use.
