We spent a week at the condo, and had a fantastic time. It's close enough to everything (bars, restaurants, shops, the beach), yet far enough away from the hustle and bustle of the tourist areas. The accomodations and amenities were excellent, and we would certainly recommend this property to anyone who's interested. The owners were incredibly helpful and accomodating on many levels.
This was our family's second year renting Cathy and George's home. Both the house itself and the location exceeded our expectations. With three bedrooms and plenty of space, it easily accommodated the six of us with no bumping into each other. We will absolutely rent this home again if Old Orchard Beach is our vacation spot next summer.
My sisters and I spent our one-week annual vacation at the condo and couldn't have been more pleased! It is exactly as pictured and met all of our needs. It is beautifully decorated and the sleeping accommodations were perfect for us. Having three bathrooms is always a good thing with four adult women! We like to walk each day and enjoyed the pleasant, quiet neighborhood setting. The downtown business and beach areas were all well within walking distance of the condo. It was a pleasure to be able to spend our time there. The kitchen was fully equipped with all that we needed and we even found a wonderful bottle of wine on the table when we arrived! George and Cathy were perfect hosts and I would highly recommend this rental to anyone!
I would definitely recommend this condo for a family vacation. It is very clean and nicely decorated. It is in a quiet residential neighborhood and it was a quick walk to the pier. My two boys and their friends walked there almost every night. We had a couple of rainy days so I dropped the teens off at Funtown Splashtown one morning and Aquaboggan Water Park another morning. I figured they were already planning on getting wet so a water park was a great place to be on a rainy summer day!
I read the reviews prior to booking and wanted to let you know that the two concerns listed had been addressed by the owners. There is now a dustpan and the slats on the deck are now covered so it would be safe for small children.
The beds are comfortable and 2 1/2 baths came in quite handy. My husband and I enjoyed coffee on the deck each morning while the teens slept in and even when it is raining the overhang keeps you dry. One of my favorite features is the washer and dryer. We were able to pack lightly and return home with minimal laundry.
We had some great family time playing the board games that were provided and we watched a couple of movies that we purchased at the local Walmart.
The kitchen had everything you could think of so meal preparation went smoothly. We ventured a couple times for dinner and enjoyed Anjon's Italian restaurant in Scarborough (closes by 9pm) and had a fun time at Kobe Japanese Steakhouse in Biddeford - great food and very entertaining.
This was the first time I've rented on HomeAway and it was a positive experience. The condo was true to its description and photos. I emailed the owner a couple of times with questions prior to our vacation and he responded immediately. Great experience, great vacation, great condo! Highly recommended.
This place was perfect for our family. We had a full family with myself, my wife, our 2 children, as well as my parents. My son (age 5) loved the loft, and the walk in closet was a perfect spot for a portable crib for our daughter (age 1). I agree with the previous review about the slats on the deck, they are too far apart for babies, and with it being up on the second level, it was hard to relax up there with her walking around. But that is the only negative thing I have to say about the place. It was very comfortable, quiet at night, but also close enough to very comfortably carry all our stuff to the beach. I would most certainly stay here again when we come back to OOB.
First the negative - If you have a small child like we do (10 mos.) this may not be the best house for your vacation. There's not a lot of space in or out for a new walker to roam safely and the slats on the deck are just wide enough for a little body to squeeze her way through. If you do stay here with a toddler, be sure to bring a gate for the stairs!
That's all the negative we have. The house was very clean when we arrived. There are lots of windows that supply ample light and a nice breeze. It's tastefully decorated and was stocked with extra bath towels, sheets, blankets, pillows, and any kitchen tool we could possibly need (except a dustpan...but that was easy enough to remedy with a paper plate). It was great to have a washer and dryer available as well as three bathrooms. Our 4-year-old loved the "tower" (the loft) where she slept and was excited about going to bed each night. The walk-in closet in one bedroom was large enough that it was a small "bedroom" that housed our little one's portable crib. George and Cathy were prompt with e-mail responses to questions and provided a lot of information in the house about things to do in the area.
The house is in an ideal location. It was far enough from the beach and the Pier to be peaceful but close enough that the walk down was only about 5 minutes.
15 mins. from Portland, 2 hrs from Boston. Old Orchard Beach Townhouse 5 mins. from the beach.
