Tanguy Relaxing in Anchorage, wishing he was at his Seward House listening to the seagulls and watching Bald Eagles.
Tanguy Libbrecht purchased this house in 2007
My family and I really enjoyed the serenity and majestic beauty of resurrection bay as well as the friendly people, fishing and wildlife.
The cottage has an unexplainable, simple charm that makes it difficult to leave. Worries melt away while you enjoy yourself with friends and loved ones. Board games, anyone?
Walking distance to everything downtown. Quiet, convenient location in a charming seaside home. Home has a warm, historic feel without being formal.
From the guest book:
This is a wonderful little cottage, its very clean and cozy. Its also very convient, very close to downtown, and the sea life center. I was with a party of 9 and we all slept comfertably in the house. We had a great time, and thanks for having us.
We very much enjoyed our overnight stay at this charming old house, perfectly located.
We came by train from Anchorage, a scenic ride not to be missed. The (free) shuttle took us to the house, perfectly located to walk to the shops, restaurants and the famous Sea Life Center and the new Library/ Museum.
The house is very well equipped, comfortable beds, large kitchen, and well decorated, prettier than the pictures!
The owner provided us with good recommendations and returned our phone call promptly .
We will come with friends for a fishing trip and explore the area.
We enjoyed our stay at Downtown Seward Cottage. There was plenty of space for the 3 of us (2 big bedrooms plus a smaller bunk room) and the mattresses were comfortable (on the soft side). The kitchen had everything we needed, and more, if you didn't mind looking through cupboards/cabinets. Loved the location - we didn't realize it was so close to the water and to cute shops/restaurants - definitely a plus! Access to grill and porch was great, too. Communication with Tanguy and the local housekeeper was smooth and efficient. Overall a very pleasant stay.
Wow! The feel of this sweet home is historic and welcoming. I want to live there, so at least got to spend a night. So much about is just right - the front room for sitting around talking or putting together a puzzle, the dining room for catching a bite, the kitchen and it's old-fashioned cabinetry, the bedrooms and the great beds and two bathrooms. And the place so perfectly situated - steps from the water and a block from the main street- yes I really loved this home.
We loved the vintage feel in this cute house, but we have an appreciation for these things..the house next door was under extensive outside remodeling but it was nice to see it being restored though a little unsightly. I was a bit disappointed that it wasn't more clean, crumbs and paint rollers in the fridge, microwave could have been wiped out and table and counters wiped down. A good vacuuming on the couch and a mop on the kitchen floor would be nice too, but the bedding was clean and beds were comfy.
A short walk to the Sea Life Center and the awesome playground. Our 2 year old daughter had lots of room to run and play, bring a child safety gate for the stairs. It was perfect for her to sleep upstairs while we stayed up late.
We would definitely stay again. The owners made it super easy!
We have had the great opportunity of using this little quaint place as a family get away before. We have happily done so again.
Upon arrival the property was clean and all of the linen was fresh. We were able to use the property and not feel like we had to worry that our kids would be a bother after running in from the rain.
It was fun to see the new property next door being worked on and know that two great pieces of Alaska history are going to be cared for by great owners who make their home(s) available to tourists.
Yes, it's an older property. No, it's not like staying in a hotel. No, it isn't a modern kitchen. We see those things and know that the ease of use, great owners, location, and charm are what make it, "just right".
We stayed at the downtown house for 2 nights recently. It was great. The house was clean and well stocked. It is an old house and you can tell they have put alot of work into it. Right downtown and nicely decorated. Would definitely stay here again. The owner is very easy to work with.
Ocean Views. Home is located close to many coffee shops, art galleries, a brewery/restaurant, as well as various restaurants. Also walking distance to movie theater and playground for kids.
