Mid-Summer Celebration

We spent our 25th Anniversary here the week of August 7, 2010 and thoroughly enjoyed the property. All of the descriptions on the website are accurate, though I think the house may be a bit smaller than might be supposed based on the photos. We were there with two adults and two 20# dogs, so it was no problem for us, but if filled to capacity it might be a bit tight.
The house and grounds were very clean and tidy. We enjoyed sitting on the deck (no bugs) watching the hummingbirds and bees in the flower border in the side yard. The dogs were very happy with the fenced yard, though there is a way to escape under the deck toward the front of the house; best to keep an eye on pets if they are loose in the lawn.
We had a bit of trouble with the wifi when we arrived, but a quick call allowed us to resolve it with no problem (unplug router, wait, plug back in). As a side note, if you carry an iPhone or iPad and are on the AT&T network, you will *need* the wifi for data service; no AT&T 3G in Bar Harbor (Edge only), and that was incredibly slow as I think every iDevice in the area was trying to use it.
We have been to Bar Harbor three or four times before, but this was the best and most relaxing stay yet. We used our car very little, mainly to get to Schoodic Point (worth it), the Loop Road and to reach the National Park Kayak rental place on Long Pond. And, while we always enjoy walking the carriage roads, this year we also walked the Meadow Loop and the Shore Path trails, both of which can be reached easily by foot from the house. Never did try the Island Explorer buses; maybe next time.
As for food: Poor Boys Gourmet was very disappointing compared to our visit in 2005; we felt McKays was a bit better than 2005 and we ate there twice; Jordans’ pancakes/breakfast was very good and the Bluefish Café was also good, but a bit pricey and not for those looking for large or oversized portions. The Hannaford supermarket is very nearby, and many other downtown eateries are no more than a 10, or at most 15, minute walk away.
All in all a great stay with no complaints; definitely recommend.
