In addition to being one of the few areas in the US that allow alternative housing, Taos offers many recreational activities. It's known for it's artist communities and the centuries old Taos Pueblo. Other tourist attractions are the homes of Kit Carson and Mabel Dodge Luhan, along with the Rio Grande Gorge and Taos Ski Valley. Twenty miles northwest is the D. H. Lawrence Ranch, (originally known as the Kiowa Ranch and now owned by the University of New Mexico), the home of the English novelist, D. H. Lawrence in the 1920s. By all accounts he loved the ranch high up in the mountains, the only property he ever owned. It is believed that his ashes are buried there at the D. H. Lawrence Memorial.

As a double visitor to this incredible 'home', I can heartily recommend a long stay at HelioHouse. I advise you to stay long term, because once you're there, you'll not want to leave anytime soon!! It's hynoptically beautiful and peaceful beyond description. I found it alluring in it's completeness as every amenity is there to provide for your uninterupted solace, even grocery service so you'll never have to leave! As a songwriter, I needed to have this sort of communion with nature with the modern conveniences of HelioHouse to really feel a balance in my spirit and my experiences there were exactly what I needed to totally rejuvenate in luxury.
