Photos and Description of the Edinburgh vacation apartment rental
Apartment, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 2-4)

Our Gayfield Square apartment is our fabulous two bedroom property situated in a fantastic position, right in the heart of our wonderful historic city. In fact you couldn't get better - the apartment is located on a beautiful leafy square in the elegant Georgian New Town. Residential and quiet, yet just a few minutes walk (about seven) from the hustle and bustle of Princes Street and George Street and from there easily accessible to the castle and Royal Mile. Moreover, we're just round the corner from the funky Broughton Street area with its great selection of restaurants, cafes and bars as well as some lovely 'local' and quirky shops (the best butcher in town, great health food store and fishmonger to name a few!)

The apartment is typical in design for its era, dating back to 1820 (yes, 1820!) and built with the grandeur that represents Georgian architecture in its prime. It's also quite a one off with its own private entrance, private front garden and back patio (very unusual for a property in such a central location of Edinburgh). The entire apartment is on the ground floor with only one step up into the front garden so is very accessible for those who have difficulty in managing stairs.

Interior style is sophisticated, contemporary and calming with a lovely blend of old and new.

The main sitting room is a very spacious 16 x 13 feet with beautiful working fireplace (living flame gas fire), ornate cornice work and double windows with views to the front gardens and square beyond. Furniture comprises a comfortable sofa and contemporary Barcelona chair both in white leather as well as two antique gilt chairs upholstered in a bold print motif. Original art pieces hang on the walls throughout the property.

The bedrooms are quietly located with cosy European king sized leather bed in one and white wooden Georgian style bed in the other, again European king sized. Wall coverings are in calming taupe and pale mocca colours.

One bedroom is serviced by an en suite shower room with walk in shower with chocolate leather effect tiling. The other is serviced by the main bathroom with corner bath and shower.

The kitchen is fully equipped - a large range cooker/oven, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer - a great cook's kitchen as well as being a very sociable space to sit round the large black granite kitchen table whilst you eat or watch the cook at work! French windows from the kitchen open up to the back patio/sitting area.

We also supply a complete pack in the apartment which will guide you through how to use everything and also a great guide to our favourite restaurants, cafes, shops and top tips on things not to miss out on while you're visiting. Wifi internet access is available throughout the apartment.

We think we've created the ideal retreat to explore our wonderful city- we really hope you'll agree if you come and stay with us!

About Robin Jack

Hi- I'm Robin (pictured here with my best friend, Vera, my miniature schnoodle). I've lived in Edinburgh for more than 20 years, having moved here to study and then working in marketing for a number of years before buying a guest house and rental apartments. My Gayfield Square apartment is my pride and joy!- having bought it and renovated it to the style and standard it is today- I'm sure you'll love staying there!

Robin Jack purchased this apartment in 2005
Why Robin Jack chose Edinburgh

Edinburgh is a fantastic city- historical, vibrant and sophisticated. The apartment is located in one of the most beautiful and central parts of town, the Georgian New town. Built around the 1800s the architecture of this area is beautiful and grand, yet the apartment is only a short walk from the bustling centre of town, all the attractions and some great places to eat and drink.

What makes this apartment unique

Culture, art, history and a lovely quiet- you'll live on a wide leafy square inhabited by locals which is a stones throw from the bustling Broughton Street area with its great cafes, restaurants and local shops (a great butcher and fishmonger are just round the corner). And only a 7 minute walk from Princes Street too!

A gem in Newtown!

Fantastic apartment in a wonderful location. This was our first experience in Edinburgh and in renting an apartment - both the city and apartment experience exceeded our expectations. Robin is a gracious owner who delivered what was promised - a well maintained, properly equipped, spacious apartment that worked beautifully for the 4 adults (2 couples) in our group. He provides valuable information regarding things to do and see as well as restaurant and pub information. In addition he was most helpful with our inquiries regarding the other sites in and around Edinburgh.
We walked everywhere - the location is superb. Beautiful, centrally located yet quiet.
We very much enjoyed the restaurant scene in Edinburgh - a fantastic Indian BYOB is right around the corner, Khushi's which we highly recommend. We also ate at Field's, Ondine and The Outsider - different experiences and all we would recommend.
Lots to do and see - in addition to the obvious the Georgian House Tour is interesting as is the tour of Mary King's Close (a bit cheesy, but still interesting!)
We highly recommend 3 Gayfield Square and Edinburgh! We weren't there long enough and hope to return one day soon.

Wonderful place to stay, centrally located and beautifully furnished. Excellent advice from Robin about local highlights. Very comfortable beds and superb kitchen. Nice personal touches and the welcome pack of breakfast items (arranged with Robin before we arrived) was much appreciated after a long trip because of snow delays. We would love to stay here again (in summer next time) and would highly recommend it. This is a special place, not just another holiday rental.

What a great place to have a holiday. This beautiful cottage has the feel of home and everything you need. The location is spectacular, with great places to eat nearby. If ever we have the privilege to visit Edinburgh again, this is where we will hope to stay. Thank you, Robin!

Perfect Location, Very Comfortable and Quiet

Lovely experience with this rental. The location was absolutely marvelous. Princes Street and Waverly Station are about a ten minute walk away, there's a cab stand less than two minutes away, and several restaurants and pubs are just around the corner. The house is on a very quiet street. The beds are marvelous - very comfortable and in December at least topped with luxurious feather comforters. Everything was very clean. The owner was exceptionally kind and responsive - our toaster wasn't working and he popped by with a new one right away. He provided instruction (written and verbal) for the appliances and fireplace, so we were comfortable and very well taken care of. I would want to stay here again, and I would highly recommend it to anyone I liked. Nearby restaurants are the Cafe Marylane which does a very nice breakfast and the Olive Branch which had one of the best dinners we had anywhere. Loved the Conan Doyle pub as well as the Shezan Indian restaurant. I did not want to leave.

Best location in Edinburg!

My husband and I are Senior Citizens who travel a lot. Now it is hard for us to walk and climb stairs, sad but true. This house was perfect for us in that it is just steps away from a small French restaurant (but they have full Scottish breakfasts) and a very short distance from other places to eat and shop. A movie theater and Playhouse were a few minutes walk away.

The house was very quiet and sleeping covered with warm feather quilts at night was a treat and necessary. Robin was there if we needed him.
