HISTORIC TOWNHOUSE IN OLD AMBOISE - CASTLE VIEWS, COURTYARD & PARKING!

Amboise Townhome Rental Photos and Description

4 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, sleeps 6 to 8

Live a bit of French History and stay in 'Le Cardinal,' an Historic Stone Townhouse in the center of Old Town Amboise with private courtyard, small garden, parking and views of the Royal Palace. This three story classic French Townhouse built in the 1800's was once a part of the bustling Place Richelieu along the Route to Chenonceaux, the most celebrated Loire Valley 16C Chateaux. Le Cardinal is a three-minute walk from the Royal Palace and two minutes from the Rue Nationale with its Clock Tower, clothing and antique shops, restaurants, wine tasting rooms, cheese shops, bakeries, bike rentals, etc. The popular Amboise Open Market, along the Loire River, is only a six-minute walk, as is the Chateau Clos Luce, than last home of Leonardo Da Vinci, now a museum in his honor. After a day of visiting the quintessential Chateaux of the Loire Valley, you'll return to your Grand Home-Away-From Home in the heart of the charming and historic Amboise. It does get any better than this!

Your townhouse is a pleasant walk or a short taxi ride across the Amboise Bridge, spanning the Loire River, from the train station. After entering the Cardinal Red door, you are welcomed into the elegant foyer and salon with crystal chandelier and classic french furnishings. The cheery & light kitchen/dinning room is next with it’s hanging copper pots, marble fireplace, terracotta tiled floors, long farmhouse table that seats 10 and Henri IV buffet. Head up stairs to the second and third floors to the 4 bedrooms, TV room and 2 full bathrooms and find hardwood floors, antique furnishing, chandeliers, exposed beams and beautiful views of Old Town Amboise and the Royal Palace.

We have scoured the antique markets of the area to comfortably furnish the townhouse with style. Explore the fortressed walls of Amboise, the Royal Chateau and the magnificent home where Leonardo da Vinci spent the last years of his life. Clos Luce, now a museum and a tribute to his genius, is within walking distance of the apartment. When you’re ready to venture a little further out, just 20 minutes away by car or a delightful bike ride is Chenonceau, the darling of the Loire Valley Chateaux. Nearby Chambord with its many turrets or Vilandry, with its amazingly beautiful ornamental gardens of colorful vegetables should be next on your agenda as they shouldn't be missed. When you’ve had your fill of sumptuous royal castles, you might explore one of the many spring and summer 'Vide Greniers,' (empty the attic) town-wide flea markets or some of the many antique stores to find that perfect treasure.

Visit the local 'caves' and sample the sparkling white wines of Vouvray and Montlouis, the full-bodied reds of Chinon and Bourgueil, specific to this region, or savor your afternoon pastry and chocolate at Madame Bigot's Tea Salon, an Amboise tradition for more than 150 years, which is right outside your door.

If you’re the outdoor type, one of the longest and most picturesque bike trails in Europe as well as section of the Grande Randonnee (France’s answer to the John Muir Trail) pass through Amboise, for your cycling and hiking enjoyment. Quality cruising bicycles can be rented from several locations 3 minutes on foot from the townhouse.

Wonderful Stay in the Loire

  • 5 of 5
My friends and I had a wonderful stay in Le Cardinal - it was a perfect location for the part of the Loire we wanted to explore. Steven & Veronica were wonderful hosts and could not have been more helpful! The house was very comfortable and had everything we could possibly need - including champagne glasses!

Comfortable, charming and centrally located

  • 5 of 5
We stayed at Le Cardinal in August 2013. Two families with 2 kids spread out up and down the three story townhouse. The kids loved the layout and our 13yr. old daughter loved the "princess room!" The kitchen was well appointed and the owners helped us secure a private chef for dinner in one evening. He prepared a simple meal for the kids and an adult menu for us! We all agreed it was well worth it. Walking to the central part of Amboise was a breeze - bike rental, castle tours and delicious eats everywhere. It was a perfect end to our European tour. I would stay here again without hesitation and will recommend to friends.

Love in Loire

  • 5 of 5
Steven and Veronica provided an exceptional home for our stay in Amboise. Each room was decorated beautifully and every comfort seen to. Our group of six had plenty of room. Their suggested activities made our time there even more special. We visited the Sunday market and brought home so much delicious food ( roasted chickens, paella, olives and wine!). Le Cardinal is just a few minutes by foot to the city castle with Chenenceau, wineries, the Loire river all within biking distance. A great home base! We hope to return soon.

Good choice for Loire Valley

  • 4 of 5
My apologies to the owners for not writing this review sooner, but I believe better late than never. Our group of 5 adults stayed at La Cardinal last summer and we had a truly fantastic time. The photos are accurate and we found our rooms to be comfortable. The location of the house is ideal, it's in a quiet neighbourhood and yet within walking distance to central Amboise with it's lovely shops, restaurants and the great market. Amboise is quite centraly located to explore the Loire Valley, the Chateau Villandry was a favourite and the meal we had at it's terrace restaurant was one of the best we had in France. The place was very clean and the owners responded very promptly when there was a problem with the toilet leaking. Just be aware that the stairs are quite steep and might be a problem for people with mobility issues. Otherwise it's a great little place and I would recommend it to anyone.

Wonderful Stay in Amboise

  • 5 of 5
We had a wonderful time during our stay in Le Cardinal. The house was very conveniently located, fantastically charming, beautiful, and comfortable. We wouldn't want to stay anywhere else if we are lucky enough to return to the beautiful Loire Valley soon.

Thank you so much Steven and Veronica - our stay was really everything we hoped it would be.
