Krakow's Historic Day trips Auschwitz and Birkenau, both on the UNESCO World Heritage sites list, could be perhaps the one of your most important historic stops in Poland. Kazimierz, also known as the Jewish Ghetto, sees a growing number of tourists every year, partly due to Steven Spielburg's Schindler's List, which was shot there. Wieliczka Salt Mine An amazing feat of human labor and the artistic drive of it's miners is this enormous 800 year old Wieliczka Salt Mine, still in production (though scaled down), just south of Kraków. Begun in the 11th century, it now covers 7.5 million square meters, spans 9 levels and reaches 300 meters down The Eagles Nests: Among the crooks and crannies of Kraków's surrounding hills and valleys are the remains of Poland's southern defensive border. During the 14th century King Kazimierz built a series of fortresses intended to protect Poland's flank against its Bohemian neighbors. While all except one -- Pieskowa Skala -- are in ruins

Further details for this vacation apartment rental in Krakow, Poland

Krakow (Cracow): 'Cracow, Poland's ancient royal capital, is one of the great survivors of this part of Europe. And much like the embattled old countess, who managed to come through the war and the Soviet era, she is a proud city. Conservative in some ways, and with an eye towards tradition, Cracow also has an eccentric streak that can be enchanting Crakow, has retained much of its splendour, yet there is a tranquility here that can be disarming. And here lies one of the keys to the city's magic. It is the kind of place where every day you might stumble across something that you have not noticed before - a little baroque church, a hidden courtyard, or perhaps just one of the myriad gargoyles and sculptures that peer down from the city's houses. Cracow is a treasure trove, and a great advantage is that it can largely be explored by foot - there is no need to plunge yourself into a world of underground trains or buses.'Cracow-life

Krakow's Historic Old Town: 'The Old Town is where most visitors will begin their tour of the city, and where many of the key landmarks are to be found. Since 1989, it has undergone a major transformation, and the place is now really getting into its stride. Cafes, restaurants and shops are flourishing, whilst the black soot that cloaked much of the city has been painstakingly removed. The dramatic arrival of democracy and a Free Market culture has, of course, been no bed of roses, but one cannot help feeling a sense of admiration at how the Cracovians have responded to the changes. The city’s age-old character has not been lost. Rather, it has been given a new lease on life. Old Town was once ringed by a great wall, and a fragment of this still survives. Where its turrets once rose up, one now finds the Planty Gardens, which form an enchanting threshold to the city. The district has preserved its medieval layout, which, unusually, followed a grid pattern. 'Cracow-life

Kazimierz: Kazimierz, which lies to the south of the Royal Castle, was once a town in its own right. With its labyrinthine streets& low-standing houses, it feels like a different world to the Old Town, & indeed, you may well get lost here. However, this is not a bad thing, but very much part of the whole experience. The town was founded in 1335 by King Kazimierz the Great, and as its splendid churches and synagogues evoke, it was once a world of prosperity and tolerance. Yet, despite having set sail on such promising waters, the district was not to have an easy journey. After many ups & downs, the death-knell for Jewish Cracow was sounded in September 1939 with the Nazi invasion. A whole world was swept away. Kazimierz is undergoing a major renaissance. Both its Jewish and Christian heritage is being restored, & colour has returned to its alleys and squares. Just wandering about is an experience in itself. All this is to say nothing of the many bars and cafes which are springing up by the dozen

A hidden Gem..

Review Submitted: August 28, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
The apartment is a gem hidden within a quiet, residential street , yet just a short walk away from the old town. It has a simple, soothing elegance. The high ceilings give a sense of spaciousness that is balanced by the warmth created by exquisite lighting. The result is sublime and etheral and nurturing to the soul---something to treasure and that we often seek in our busy lives.

We had a wonderful stay at your flat. It was everything promised and more. It was just the two of us, and we enjoyed the spaciousness and the surround sound (and the many CDs of classical music). The location is perfect, so close to everything. Thanks also to Sylwia who was very helpful. We had two great meals at Miod Molina and Pod Ananiolami, too! And made friend with the kitty in the courtyard. Thanks for a wonderful stay!

Apartment in Sebastiana

Review Submitted: June 13, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
Greta's apartment is exquisitely finished: all high ceilings, parquet floors and stylish lighting. It is also very roomy and has all the conveniences you will need - including for young families. Positioning is perfect: five minutes' walk to Kazimierz, and 10 minutes' to the main square (Rynek). The housekeeper and driver are exceptionally friendly and helpful. This is a great base for exploring beautiful Krakow. Highly recommend.

This is a fantastic apartment, and you'd be crazy to stay anywhere else in Krakow. The location, in a quiet residential area between the Old Town and Kazimierz, is perfect for exploring both. The apartment has every comfort and convenience, and is so lovely that it's a pleasure to be in it. Great mattress, you'll sleep well on it, and there's all kinds of helpful information, from sights and restaurant suggestions to emergency numbers. I asked whether a cell phone would be available, and Greta just went ahead and bought one -- just a small example of her thoughtfulness and hospitality. She, Sylwia and Pawel's brother (whose name I can't spell, alas, but who was my airport driver and very kind) did everything possible to make my stay perfect, and it was. Do yourself a favor: go to Krakow, and rent this apartment. You will not regret it. Thanks Greta, I'll be back!
