Enjoy views of the blue ocean and majestic mountain top of Mauan Kea by day and amazing stars and, at times, breathtaking full moon and moon lit ocean by night. Short walk to the coastline, biking and nature walks abound. 5 minutes drive to Akaka Falls, 10 miles north of Hilo, close to major attractions in Hilo and short drives to other popular sites such as Volcano National Park, Botanical Gardens and surfing spots. Location also allows for easy day trips to attractions on the north and west side of the Big Island, such as Waipio Valley, Hapuna Beach and the towns of Honokaa, Waimea and Kailua-Kona. Situated not far from Hilo, the growing town of Pepeekeo is one of former sugar plantation towns along the Hamakua Coast which features awesome views of the pristine blue waters of the Pacific Ocean. This is a great location to explore the history of Hawaii, taste the wonders of tropical fruits, and indulge yourselves in various exciting outdoor activities such as hiking, mountain biking, canoe paddling, snorkeling and surfing. A short drive will bring you and your family to many 'must go to' visitor sites such as the Volcano National Park, the black sand beach, the Imiloa Astronomy Center (which has a great planetarium and lots of interactive devices to engage both adults and children), the Pacific Tsunami Museum, Hilo Famer's Market, Akaka Falls, Botanical Gardens and a whole lot more! Cottage is also near other parks, shopping mall, major grocery stores, theatres, banks, restaurants, churches and golf courses. All of our guests have been pleased with their stay here.

  • $200 deposit required immediately to secure reservations. Full payment for entire length of stay has to be received 60 days prior to check in date . $50 cancellation fee policy. Late inquiries will be entertained if facility is available. Refund possible depending on lead time and if no other parties have been turned away prior to check in date. No security deposit refund allowed for cancellations prior to 3 weeks of check in date.
  • Monthly renters will be assessed $150/mth for utility charges and additional cleaning fees.
    Payment via checks are preferred. Credit card payments will be assessed transaction fee of 4%.

A Great Place!

This was our fifth time renting a place in Hawaii and by far the Cottage by the Sea was the best.

Everything was very new and clean, a great value for the price. It is located in a very quiet area of new homes separated by acres of former sugar cane fields. The hosts, Yu Yok and Mike were very fiendly and helpful. They respected our privacy and we respected the fact that this was a family area.

The cottage location is in a fantastic location to explore old Hawaii. Just a short drive south into Hilo for the Farmer's Market. Our return from Hilo usually was by the scenic drive. Look for the "4 Mile Scenic Route" sign on the ocean sidea. The scenic drive ends just a short distance away from the cottage.

Most of our time we explored places norith of the cottage driving the Old Mamalahoa Highway and side roads to discover some beautiful areas. We visited many of the state parks in this area and old plantation towns. Many days our plans changed as we discovered another beautiful area to explore.

Some unexpected sightseeing came from the cottage views. Rise early in the morning to watch cruise ships pass by with all their lights and great sunrises. On a clear day look out the bedroom windows to see the snow on the top of Mauna Kea. For three days we were reminded that the cottage is a place to relax and take it easy, that was the time it took a Giant East African Snail to make its way from the front to the back of the patio.

We enjoyed our stay and hope to return next year.

Cottage by the Sea

My wife and I spent our honeymoon in Hilo and we stayed at the cottage. We had a marvelous time. The cottage is very clean, quiet and cozy. Yu Yok is very sweet and was responsive to all our needs. Most mornings we got up early to watch the sun rise from the living room window. Pretty spectacular. The cottage is just a few miles outside Hilo, and its a pleasant ride into town. We both will recommend this cottage to our friends who are flying in to the Big Island, and plan to come back ourselves.

Very great Cottage, everything was absolutly clean and new. I had a great stay at this Cottage. Thank you Yu Yok for the nice days that i had on the Hiloside of Big Island.

German:
Es war ein wunderschöner Aufenthalt. Alles war absolut sauber, findet man leider nicht überall so. Yu Yok war sehr hilfbereit wenn man Fragen hatte.
Vom Flughafen braucht man ca. 20 Minuten mit dem Auto, je nach Verkehr in Hilo. Somit ist man etwas außerhalb von Hilo und hat seine totale Ruhe, und doch zentral gelegen.
Würde jedem empfehlen hier her zu gehen wenn man was im Raum Hilo sucht.
Ich glaube nicht das man was besseres findet zu diesem Preis.
Alles weitere wurde ja schon oft geschrieben.

Perfect for our family

The cottage was perfect for our family. It was near everything we wanted to see and do in the Hilo area. The cottage was clean and the owners were very responsive to all of our needs and requests. We would recommend this cottage to a friend and would definitely stay there again if/when we are in the Hilo area. The Hawaii botanical garden is close by and is well worth the visit.

Cottage in Pristine Condition!

The cottage was in such a pristine state, that it felt like being in a new model home. It is very obvious that the owner Yu Yok takes great pride in this property. The cottage is absolutely immaculate. You have everything you'll ever need for a comfortable stay.

Upon our arrival, the owner Yu Yok greeted us with such warm hospitality that it made us feel as if we were long lost family! She made us feel close yet gave us our space for our privacy.

This is an excellent value for such a great price! I highly recommend anyone to this property.
