Gabriola Treasure - A place to recharge, have an enjoyable experience, and gain a new state of calm.
This comfy cottage in Sylvia Bay on Gabriola Island is well worth writing about. I’ve been to Sylva Bay before having arrived by sailboat, which is also an incredible trip as is the short ferry ride from Nanaimo. However this time I took a short 20 minute flight with Tofino Air from Vancouver’s south terminal direct to Silver Bay Marina was well worth the money ($87) and a fun part of the experience. Flying on a float plane for the first time was a hoot, I had the hot seat up front, we flew low and the islands all around are just amazing.
Nestled in the trees just a short walk from the float plane base at the marina is this comfy cottage. With two bedrooms upstairs, the master suite had a snuggly down duvet with fluffy pillows, and a quaint view of the bay out on the little breakfast balcony. The second bedroom has bunk beds for the kids and a double for mom and dad. A shared bathroom which has a magnificent soaker tub with a classic italian basin and fixtures. On the main level which was meant as the gathering and chatting place has a toasty fireplace, lazy girl recliners and a sink in to sofa. Sipping on a bottle or two of Merlot we were entertained by the guitar strums and vocals of our talented friends. The stylish kitchen has more Italian marble and fixtures with everything you need to prepare a fest. For a little extra warmth the wood burning stove just off the kitchen had a stoked fire which added to the comfort.
The decor thru out had unique nautical collectables mixed old with new, every little corner has something interesting to gaze upon and take your imagination flying, how wonderful and full of surprises it all was.
The other two spacious size bedrooms on the main level have comfy queen size beds along with the second bathroom and,did I mention a second soaker tub AMAZING! After an evening of good food, fabulous company and a warm fire, I awoke to a sunny morning with just a bit of the fog rolling in, truly a photographers dream. The home seems to wrap itself around you with a warm feeling like being cuddled.
"COMFY is the simple single word I would use to describe this home, to top all that off, a great view of all the moored sailboats with their stunning reflections in the water. Stepping out the glass doors onto the huge deck which overlooked the bay, I could stroll through the garden, down to the dock and watch starfish playing between the rocks, what a wonderful way to spend a quiet moment in thought...An escape highly recommended.
