High in the hills on a quiet road, a magical place of woods, fields and solitude--yet close to many attractions including swimming and fishing, Baseball Hall of Fame, Howe Caverns, Iroquois Museum, the Tenzin Gyatso Institute in nearby Berne, historic villages of Sharon Springs and Rensellaerville, and East Durham, with its lively Irish cultural scene. Antiquing, restaurants, horseback riding, hiking, all near. Spring-fed pond, apple trees, large acreage out back for exploring. House dates from early 1800s. Lovingly kept, with beautiful old furnishings throughout. Upstairs, four bedrooms, center hall and half bath. Downstairs, full kitchen, living room with brick hearth, library, sitting room, pantry, full bath, back and front porches. DVD/VCR, blender, toaster, all utensils/spices, new fridge & gas stove.

We are 2.5 hours north of New York City's George Washington Bridge, 45 minutes southwest of Albany, and 12 minutes from the rural villages of Rensellaerville and Middleburgh. This is one of New York''s most sparsely populated areas, yet close to many fun activities. Unspoiled old towns, antique shops, fishing, swimming, horseback riding, hiking, historic sites all within 20 minutes. Nearby: Schoharie's Old Stone Fort; Cooperstown's Baseball Hall of Fame, Glimmerglass Opera, Fenimore Art Museum; Howe Caverns; Secret Caverns; East Durham, heart of the 'Irish Catskills,' with its lively pubs and festivals; the fabulous old town of Rensellaerville, with fine dining and art galleries; the 19th-century bathing resort of Sharon Springs.

This is an exceptionally quiet and beautiful spot. Flowers and migrating birds in spring; fireflies and berries in summer; apples in fall; crisp and snowy in winter.

The house is our own weekend place--not primarily a rental property--so it is lovingly maintained.
