The best place in the world to watch the sunset! Set up high on a hill and nestled amidst the pine trees, this four year old, private and spacious contemporary home overlooks Lake Ashmere (across the road) in Hindsdale. The great room with cathedral ceilings and a wall of windows overlooking the lake, is open to the dining and kitchen area. Master bedroom loft suite also has spectacular views. Front deck overlooking lake with hot tub. Beautiful cedar lined screen porch with comfortable outdoor furnishings. Professionally decorated with all new furnishings (including pillowtop mattresses). Perfect layout for one or 2 families vacationing together or an adult getaway. Feels secluded and private, yet only 10 minutes to Pittsfield (supermarket, mall, cinemas).
This area has a lot to offer even when summer is over! It is only 20 minutes from Jiminy Peak, which is the largest ski resort in the area. If the lake is frozen, you can skate, snowmobile or use an ATM via lake access across the street. The driveway can be a great sledding hill when it snows. The house is 10 minutes from a Barnes and Noble and the Berkshire mall if winter activities don't appeal to you.
The spring, and especially the fall, are also beautiful in the Berkshires and there are plenty of outdoor activities.
We were so excited to stay in this beautiful home over Labor Day weekend. It rained everyday but we had the most fabulous trip. The house is amazing! Looks and feels brand new. Beautifully decorated and very comfortable living space! Lots of room. Loved all the big windows - the view was beautiful. The morning view over the lake was spectacular! Relaxed in the hot tub after a long hikes in the woods. Great hiking close by (beautiful waterfalls - Bish Bash Falls)! Had board games that our 7 year old loved playing! Can't wait to go back and stay again soon!
My fiancee and I rented this home with a few friends to get out of Manhattan for the weekend. It was PERFECT - and even nicer than the photos represented.
Everyone was comfortable in their rooms, and enjoyed the communal spaces together, including the hot tub (which is kept incredibly clean). The one surprise was that the master bedroom is a loft, so there was no sleeping privacy for us who slept in that room.
The landlords are very professional, and quick to respond. We also enjoyed a day of skiing at Jiminy Peak during the weekend. Overall great weekend, would definitely return to this same house - and recommend it!
This was a wonderful retreat for my family. The weather was uncooperative with rain every day we were there. The accommodations made this week work - the views of the lake and the openness of the home made it more like a retreat. There was an ample supply of games and puzzles and access to some wonderful hikes that were still a wonderful experience in spite of the rain. We did have one day with patches of sun before and after the rain and were able to get out and explore the lake from the kayak. It was a wonderful and peaceful place to be, thank you.
We were a family of 5 adults and 4 kids ages 8-1/2 - 12-1/2. The home worked just perfectly for us for the entire week. There is a spacious feel throughout. Our pre-teen grandsons used the basement rooms for creating and rehearsing a music concert for us without disturbing the adults or the neighbors (hopefully!). They may have been audible to the whole neighborhood during the Friday night concert in the living room! Our granddaughters especially enjoyed the hot tub. All this left the adults plenty of time and space to relax both inside and out, as all seating was very comfy. The home is visually stunning, which added to our pleasure. The Hinsdale location turned out to be perfect in terms of being "midway" between outings to the Jiminy Peak area and down to the Normal Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, both recommended. Beds extremely comfortable all around. Dining was ideal, with our grandkids set up on one side of the big island counter, leaving the other side free for prep, and the big dining room table for the grownups to spread out .
To be specific about the water, there was plenty for all of us for all our ample water needs. The hot tub never caused any problem whatsoever, although in all cases we respected the "reasonable use" and hot-tub care requests made by the owners. Nobody was deprived of anything. The house really worked perfectly**, and we recommend it without reservation. **One of our grandkids caused a stoppage in the downstairs bathroom. We called the owners in CT, & a plumber arrived within 45 minutes and efficiently repaired the problem..
There were just two things that keep me from saying that on a scale of 1 to 10, this home is a 12: One was that, because we were arriving from the West Coast by plane, the owners agreed to provide towels for us, but the towel supply left was overloaded with bath towels and practically no hand towels or wash cloths. My husband and I had to share one hand towel and one washcloth, and we did not find a phone number to call the housekeeper. The other "ding" was that the "lakefront" that's available with the property is quite tiny (about 12' wide), with no comfortable place for an "oldie" to sit while the kids played in the water. However, it really WAS enough to launch both the "house" kayak, and a blow-up raft the driving part of the family brought along.
All in all, the house was really terrific.
I hate to be a nosey neighbor but I have to comment. My husband and I have a cottage down and across the street from this home and we were there NY Weekend. I would say by noise level, that these guests had a GREAT time! Let's just say that I'm not surprised the hot tub was clogged nor am I surprised they drove into a ditch.
I've never met the owners and only found this comment as I was inquiring about renting it myself for a large reunion I'm having this summer. We were in the house when it was on the market a few years ago and found it to be absolutely gorgeous and the owners seem to be caring for it beautifully. I've heard nothing but good things from the renters I've met.
Our's is a nice, quiet lake and a great place to vacation. I'm looking forward to renting the house if available.
We rented this lovely house during the first two weeks of August 2009. The house is spacious, clean, well furnished, and - overall - very comfortable. It can easily accomodate 8 adults and 2 children. My wife and I took the loft bedroom, which was huge, while my two teen sons took the two rooms on the grounf floor. We used the basement to watch TV. We spent the afternoons in the screened room next to the kitchen and the evenings in the patio enjoying the lake, the stars and the BBQ.The location is lovely: surrounded by woods, overlooking a lake, and 10 minutes from downtown Pittsfield.
The owners were a sweet and cooperating couple. They responded to our little problems promptly, and even drove from Connecticut to check everything was alright. There was a little problem with the water supply at first but once the basement bathroom problem was understood, we had plenty of water for the entire 2-week stay.
The only thing missing in the house was wireless DSL and a blender in the kitchen. Otherwise, a perfect vacation house.
The Berkshires has something for everyone year round, but especially in the summer months. We are a short drive to the popular cultural attractions, such as Tanglewood, Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival, Shakespeare and Berkshire Theatres, Shaker Hancock Village and Norman Rockwell Museum. For the shoppers, we are close to the Lee Outlet Center, Berkshire Mall and many antique and art galleries. For our physically active guests, there are plenty of local opportunities to go horseback riding, fishing, golfing, swimming and biking (Appalachian Rail Trail).
We have a tandem kayak on site that can be launched across the street.
