PROVIDENCE is an architectural marvel, available for rent after two years of extensive renovation. Turkish travertine tile, hand scraped wood floors, quartz kitchen countertops, new furniture, and floor to ceiling windows contribute to a warm, inviting Beach Chic look.

PROVIDENCE is a multi-functional home that sleeps 13, welcomes families looking for time together, couples seeking respite from their responsibilities, fishermen, golfers, anyone seeking time to unwind, sun to soak in, water to refresh and a beautiful tropical island experience to remember.

PROVIDENCE has four levels of living space that combine utility and utopia. The ground level begins at the edge of the dramatic heated pool with over 2000 square feet of covered outdoor space as well as indoor space to dry off after a swim in the pool or the Gulf.

The first floor foyer welcomes you with a 24 foot ceiling and a magnificent view of Roosevelt Channel. The CONTEMPORARY KITCHEN has new cabinets, new appliances, quartz countertops, a marble top island and a dining area with seating for 14.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The home is at the end of a road winding through 5 acres of landscaping and faces east on Blind Pass which teams with wildlife: ospreys, eagle, egrets, ibis, pelicans and more; fish off the dock include sea trout, sheepshead (if you can filet this fish, it is great eating), and daily dolphin sitings. Sit on the large dock to fish or enjoy the wildlife and the passing boat traffic. Large, fenced, heated pool with copious sitting room. Outdoor table tennis, barbecue and a nearby bar fridge in the room with a billiard table. First level has a very large deck, 2 screened lanais, a large open space for sitting, dining, tv watching. Kitchen has all the modern amenities (needs some additional wares such as bowls for soup or cereal). One bedroom on this level with en suite (all bedrooms have their own bath and shower) plus a bathroom for guests. Third floor has a master suite and large closet with a whirlpool bath. Back balcony and large outside sitting area overlooking the water. Smaller bedroom on the opposite side in front with a deck and a large king bedroom is the fourth bedroom. All bedrooms have televisions and ample storage and three have a single bed as well as the main bed. The top floor has a sitting area with a large sectional sofa and a balcony.

The house has ample linens and plush towels for use at the pool or on the Gulf front beach (which is accessed by a short dedicated walkway across Captiva Drive). A large garage contains many bikes, a wagon, pool and beach toys, and folding chairs for the beach. Easily accessed wifi and cable television.

Close to restaurants: Mad Hatter, Sunset Grille, Lazy Flamingo Key LimeBistro, Crowsnest, Old Captiva House, Mucky Duck and small stores (one a short walk across the bridge at Blind Pass, others at the north end of the Island). We used the marinas at Jensens and at Tween Waters for boat and fishing charters over the 6 week stay. Make the trip to Cabbage Key and Cayo Costa.

Tranquil sanctuary away from the fray where adult couples, their children and good friends can congregate for a great and relaxing time in a special part of the world.

Drawbacks include the absence of an elevator or any access for the disabled traveller and a sometimes frustrating trips off the islands to the mainland (allow ample time to get to the international airport when leaving) or returning (use West Gulf to Rabbit Road rather than the challenging Periwinkle Way).

We had great assistance from the staff who take care of the house.

Natural Beauty

  • 5 of 5

Providence was an amazing house with unbelievable views from every room, tons of space and plenty of activities to keep us entertained. Each morning and evening we felt we were watching a National Geographic movie looking off the back porch into the bay as osprey, ibis and egrets feasted in the receding tides and 18" fish were bounding out of the water 10 feet at a time. The beach was beautiful and isolated and just across the street. The house was perfect for children due to the openness of the kitchen and living spaces and the multiple gates that limited our toddlers access to the pool. While great for young children, the kayaks, ping pong, and bikes made it great for any age."

Providence Is Heaven!

  • 5 of 5

We have visited the Sanibel/Captiva area at least 20 times and this home was our finest experience. There were 10 of us staying in the house but we each had our own space and plenty of room. It is ideal for large groups/families.

This was our first experience staying on the bay/channel side and we loved it. It was just like having our own wildlife sanctuary in our back yard - eagles, osprey, hundreds of birds, flamingoes, dolphins. Access to kayaks and bicycles provided a wonderful outlet for athletic young adults and children. They spent hours kayaking up and down the channel and biked on Captiva and on Sanibel. Fishing was fun off the dock - we used frozen shrimp purchased at the little general store - and were able to catch a number of fish - including the fish out 10 yr old granddaughter caught 5 minutes after throwing in her line.

The sunrises were exquisite - I cherished the quiet time with the orange sky over the east horizon. We marveled at the incredible sky - we even saw a shooting star from the "captain's loft" as we watched the full moon rise over the channel. It was an experience you can't duplicate anywhere.

The beach was wide and beautiful with wonderful soft sand - and just down the beach at an inlet were piles and piles of shells. The house provided chairs, umbrellas and lots of pool and beach toys. Pool or beach?? Tough decisions we had to make every day. Everyone loved the whole week - "our best family vacation ever!" (A quote from our granddaughters.)

We will most definitely be back. Thank you Michael for the wonderful "gift" when we arrived and for providing our family the opportunity to enjoy a week in such a beautiful home.

Perfect Family Tropical Retreat

  • 5 of 5

Our extended family chose Providence as a place to get together for our Christmas holidays this year. It was the perfect family retreat. When we walked in we couldn't stop ooh-ing and ahh-ing about how beautiful the house was and how gorgeous the views were from the many decks, porches, and outdoor spaces. The owner had tastefully decorated the house for Christmas so we were able to convince the grandchildren that Santa would, indeed, find them here and put presents under the lighted palm tree! The grandchildren fell in love with the perfectly heated pool and the young adults played ping pong and pool every day. We took the kayaks out and toured the adjacent waterways and islands. Exotic birds were everywhere. Flocks of white pelicans liked to hang out on the sand bars in the channel and frigates, osprey, herons, and ibis were everywhere! We even saw dolphins playing in the channel and at the beach. The beach was awesome! You just walk down the winding driveway and cross the street to the path that leads to the beach. Some days we were the only ones at the beach, so it felt secluded and private. That is exactly what we wanted. Even in December, we were able to get out in the water and swim. It was cool but refreshing. We took a Captiva boat cruise to a nearby island for an afternoon adventure. Dolphins played happily in our wake as we cruised along. They were cute. The shells and driftwood at the deserted island were fabulous! We even found a whole sand dollar. We also went to the Ding Darling Wildlife refuge which is interesting and educational for the children. We saw big water turtles and an alligator as well as crabs and several different species of birds. We all agreed, however, that watching the wildlie from the decks at Providence was just as amazing as the wilflife refuge. The adult children took the bikes out for a ride which was fun for them.

Many thoughtful touches were provided at Providence. A welcome basket greeted us when we arrived. There was an ample supply of house towels as well as beach towels, and plenty of luxurious linens. We had rented a baby crib and high chair from a local rental agency and that was set up and waiting for us upon our arrival. There were life jackets for the boats, and plenty of sand toys and swimming pool toys. There were beach chairs and even a wagon to carry beach supplies in. There were plenty of family games and puzzles.

We enjoyed our stay and will certainly return!

Our family spent the first week of November at Providence. It was perfection! The house, set on beautiful grounds and set way back from the road, provides an amazingly rainforest like feel. The house is an Architectural Digest experience. The open floor plan, huge expanse of glass and high ceilings provide a wonderful sense of space. And then there is the vista! Facing the Channel, we were able to enjoy an incredible view of nature at its best. Birds of all kinds inhabit the area. Two bald eagles visited our roof. The kitchen is well appointed and a joy to work in. We especially appreciated the large marble top island for serving. It made everything so easy. The house is thoughtfully furnished so that everyone can enjoy casual living. The furniture is inviting and comfortable. We loved eating out on the porch off of the dining room. All of the bedrooms were beautiful, comfortable and well appointed. The master suite, with its enormous bathroom and deck that continued the view, was fabulous. We loved that each bedroom had its own bathroom and most their own deck. We also appreciated that there was an abundance of towels. The conveniently located washer and dryer added a bonus. There is plenty to do without even leaving the premises. We spent loads of time at the pool. It has plenty of lounges and tables. And, is on the same level as the ping- pong table and billiard room. There is even a small refrigerator in the billiard room for drinks. Very convenient! There is a private dock. We hardly saw any other people the entire time were there. The three double kayaks were great. The Channel is beautiful and peaceful and the kayaks gave us access to exploring. In addition to all the birds, we saw manatees and other water life. There are a number of bikes for those who choose to ride. The beach is a very short distance away. Just cross the road, go down a short path and you are there. There is a wagon provided so that you can easily transport the beach chairs provided. Do not miss the sunsets. They are beyond description. It’s a perfect spot for champagne and a photo op.Our family of ten (my husband & I, our sons, their wives and our four grandsons, ages 3-15) gathered to celebrate special birthdays. Michael, the owner, is gracious and helpful. We could not have chosen a better place. Everyone loved it.

Great couples home!

  • 5 of 5

Providence is exactly as mentioned in the write-up: beautiful sunrises, spacious open indoor and outdoor space, beautifully decorated and centrally located, just across the street to the beach. The home is great for entertaining and allows you to have the space when you want to have quiet time to read or fun time with your party. Definitely a great home. The pool area is spacious with spots to either sunbathe or lay in the shade. It was a pleasure working with Michael, the owner.

Great Time at "Providence" Home in Captiva

  • 5 of 5

We sincerely enjoyed our visit with four families (8 adults and 5 small kids). The 4 story house and grounds were clean and kept in good condition. Outdoor activities on the premises included 3 kayaks, a couple fishing poles, pool, and lots of sundecks and patios. The house faces the bay (not the Gulf) which made for some beautiful sunrises. The tides on the bay probably moved up and down by 2-3 feet each day. We caught one catfish off the dock using the sand crabs that were everywhere as bait; probably could have caught more stuff if we had live shrimp which the passing by boats seemed to be using. We could walk to the beach across the street in less than 5 minutes. Be sure to bring bug spray -- the "no-seeums" bothered some of us and didn't both others at all. Inside, the house was very spacious. Basement had a pool table. Main floor had a living area with TV/Satellitte Dish/DVD Player (bring DVDs if you plan to watch these), one bedroom, and the kitchen & dining area. Second floor had 3 bedrooms. Third floor was a loft area with a balcony that overlooked the bay. We ate most of our meals by cooking our own food (pots, pans, dishwasher, utensils, dishware were all well provided). We went out one time to the Bubble Room for dinner based on the write-ups in TripAdvisor. Food was OK, but atmosphere was unique & fun for the kids. Grocery stores on Captiva were small and very expensive but on Sanibel (20 min drive) they were larger, well stocked and decently priced. We had a lot of rain in early July, but had enough sunshine to still enjoy ourselves. I would recommend this place if you have a big group (up to 12 or 13) and don't need to be beach front. It has a nice dock on the bay so if you have a boat or want to rent one, you can park it there.
