Photos and Description of the Duluth vacation cottage rental
Cottage, 3 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 6)

'Cottage on the Point' is located on Lake Superior's grand Duluth beach with five miles of extraordinary sand. This historic home, built in the late 1880's, rumored to be a hunting lodge, is now completely restored. Remodeled and redecorated it is full of old Duluth charm and modern conveniences.

The cottage is three miles from the world famous aerial lift bridge and Canal Park activities. It is one and a half miles from the Park Point recreation area with sailing and boat launch facilities. The cottage is located in a residential neighborhood, with private beach access. Step back to a time when the pace was slower and relax in your own private beach cottage.

Park Point offers many wonderful activities and we are prepared to help you enjoy it with four kayaks, one aluminum canoe, two adult life vests and beach mats and towels. Come prepared to enjoy the sun, but if it should rain, you can enjoy the supply of videos, DVD's, games and books perfect for a relaxing vacation.

Don't miss a chance to rent this extraordinary home at a price below the cost of a hotel room or conduminum rental. You can have it all - three large bedrooms, large living room / great hall with gas fireplace, dining room, kitchen, laundry room, front porch, back porch, gas grill and of course the beach - all located in quiet neighborhood. It is the best Duluth has to offer and it is away from the crowds that are found at lakeside hotels and condumiums.

EXTRA BONUS: If you like psychological suspense novels, check out books by award winning author Brian Freeman (bfreemanbooks). Our historic beach cottage is featured in Freeman's third and fourth novels, featuring Jonathan Stride and Serena Dial. The forward reads: 'Much of this novel was conceived and researched in a rental cottage on Park Point in Duluth that bears suspicious similarity to the home now owned by Stride and Serena. Your can actually stay there yourself, or tour the home at cottageonthepoint.' Or just send in a VRBO inquiry now for your dates and see if you can enjoy this historic cottage for your vacation. Please note that this is a peaceful residential neighborhood. Loud parties and excessive drinking or substance use are not welcome.

About Pat Burns

The cottage was purchased as a personal residence. We converted it to a rental in 2005 and continue to give it the loving care it deserves. Bill is a lifelong Duluthian and knows this area and the community extremely well. He is a great resource for information on this area as well as, the north shore, BWCA, and the Quetico. We love this area for the beauty and all the activites we enjoy - skiing, kayaking, biking, paddling and wilderness camping.

Pat Burns purchased this cottage in 1995
Why Pat Burns chose Duluth

We both love Park Point, and live next to the cottage. The beach is peaceful and very quiet. At times we are the only people in our area down there. It is in a residential area and not near public beach areas. The beauty and serenity are so soulful and breathtaking. It is a great place for renewing one's spirit.

What makes this cottage unique

The cottage is loaded with old world charm - from the carved mahogany pillars to the built in china cabinet and reading nooks by the fireplace. It simply forces a slower pace. The front porch catches cool breezes and a great place to start the morning with a cup of coffee and a good book, while the back porch and deck are perfect as enclosed play area and a relaxing place to grill dinner. We provide four kayaks for use by our guests that allows a paddle on Lake Superior to explore the beauty of the lake. All to give an unforgettable experience and vacation needed in this fast paced world.

Very family friendly

My wife and I stayed with our 2 1/2 year old for three nights at the cottage. Having a toddler with a lot of food allergies make vacations tough. At the cottage, we have a HUGE and comfortable kitchen to make his meals and then walk to the beach to have fun. Pat is a great host and I would recommend the Beach Cottage to anyone.

Winter Weekend of fun!

My kids and I arrived to find the cottage to be spotless, huge and nice and warm! Having the cozy fireplace saved us from the -40 winchill Sunday! Saturday was beautiful and we saw tons of the outdoors and enjoyed the path to the beach and got some great pictures along the lake. It was so nice to have all the space with four kids. Hotels just don't work for us and I love to be able to prepare meals since we have multiple food allergies. We had a wonderful time and cannot wait to come back!!

Great Winter Retreat

My husband and I stayed at Cottage on the Point for one month while house hunting in Duluth. The cottage is so spacious and lovely that I will miss being here every day. The beds were like sleeping on a cloud and very comfy. The movies in Canal Park, shopping, restaurants, grocery, banks etc. are within a 10 minute trip. We walked to Canal Park several days even through the snow. Our family visited during Thanksgiving and we attended the Festival of Trees and walked through Bentleyville. Terrific place to spend quality time.

Happy Holidays to The Burns Family from The Raihos.

Second time is also a charm!

We love Cottage on the Point! Our family rented the cottage last summer for a week, as a vacation destination in Duluth and Lake Superior. We loved our stay last year so much we booked again this summer, and we loved the cottage as much this year as we did last year. We have two boys, ages 6 and 4, and there's so much to do in the Duluth area that the cottage is a perfect fit for our needs. The quick access to the beach is perfect, we almost had the beach to ourselves - it was very private, the sand is silky and the views of the lake are stunning. The cottage itself is very clean and tidy; and has a lot of amenities not offered at other vacation properties such as washer/dryer including laundry soap, lots of sand toys for the kids, kids books and games, a 'library' with many books to read while visiting, DVDs and VHS tapes to watch on the DVD and VCR, the use of four kayaks with adult life vests, a bike storage area, beach towels and a very well stocked kitchen. Renting from Pat and Bill feels like you are staying with family, they provide the extra details that made our stay perfect. We are already looking forward to our stay again next year.
Owner's Response: We love having guests that return to the cottage. It is like having family visit all summer long. With 11 grandchildren and 7 children between Bill and I, we have fun stocking the cottage to meet the needs of our family and yours.

the perfect family vacation

Submitted: August 12, 2012 Stayed: July 2012
This trip to Lake Superior and Duluth was our first and we were anxious to see if the house would be as appealing in person as it is on the listing. It absolutely is. It is gorgeously updated and yet still full of original charm. The rooms are large and the beds and furniture are very comfortable. The lake is just a few steps from the back door and the bay is visible from the front porch. The pictures of this house are very accurate but really do not do the home justice. The cottage is very well appointed with the things you need and immaculately clean. We have teens, as well as a younger child, and they were very appreciative of the provided wi-fi. There were beach toys and kayaks available too which made every beach trip fun for the entire family. The cottage is only a minute or so from Canal Park, a quaint shopping area, and Park Point, a nice park and hiking area. Our entire family enjoyed going to both places. The homeowners were very gracious and available to answer questions if needed. Pat even went kindly out of her way to return a much loved yet left behind bear belonging to one of our children. This beautiful home is is the perfect place to stay for families with children of all ages.
