Serenity's Nest was named for the beauty and serenity I felt when I first visited. On the front porch are at least 5 undisturbed birds nest that yearly have new arrivals and can be viewed from the couch in the front room. In spring feedings may be viewed. I have viewed beavers, deer, raccoons so many different birds, including the Blue Herring, chipmunks, squirrels, and of course the fish that jump from the river and occasionally a turtle is spotted. This cabin is a great place to bring your family for a great peaceful vacation, but yet close to the many activities that Houghton Lake area offers. Fishing from the rivers edge can be great fun for the whole family, the evening campfire can be a relaxing way to end your day, or enjoy a late night snack, a hot dog (Koegles Vienna best in MI) or maybe a smore. Come and enjoy your home away from home at Serenity's Nest.

Serenity's Nest is located on M-55, 5 miles west of highway 27 exit at Houghton Lake in the small city of Merrit on the west branch of the Muskegon river only 1 mile west of the main branch of the Muskegon River and Jeff Bens park. Houghton Lake is only a 10 minute drive. The quite country setting is 15 miles away from Lake City and the Merrit Speedway is a 10 minute drive. The cabin is on a 1 acre piece of land that sits way back from the road. A peaceful but convenient location to fit all the needs of your family members.

Quiet Stay with Some Unpleasant Surprises

The cabin was a quiet and peaceful getaway. My husband and I enjoyed our stay for a fall getaway weekend. The river behind the cabin was very serene and peaceful. However the cabin was not as cleanly as it could be (ie. dead mouse in the empty trashcan), (dusty). Also the gas grill was great for barbequeing, but there was not much gas left. (We had planed to barbeque some burgers for friends that we invited over, but the gas was empty.)
