The best waterviews and comforts kept our guests coming back to our Gulf Retreat 1 (VRBO Listing 43893). Eventually we found that so many people wanted to come back that we had to turn many of them away due to lack of availability. But no more: Announcing Gulf Retreat 2! The same floor plan, amenities and luxury appointments as our Gulf Retreat 1. Most importantly, the same fabulous VIEWS, and just a few feet away, in the same condo association.

Isabel is from Spain and we met while I lived and worked there for ten years. During our years there we enjoyed traveling throughout Europe and especially staying in the quaint Bed and Breakfasts that are so typical there. We made notes of all of the things we liked and disliked about everywhere we stayed and planned to one day have somewhere unique and cozy of our own to offer to vacationers.
In 2000 work brought us to St. Petersburg, Florida. In 2004 we purchased a condo in Indian Shores, just a few miles from our home. We decorated it with nothing but the best (Isabel is an Interior Decorator and has her own business). As guests began to know us and word began to get around we soon had a steady flow of visitors and a full calendar. Just repeat visitors were nearly keeping the unit booked. In 2008 we decided to buy a second unit, with the exact same floor plan and the same extraordinary views, just a few steps away. We call them our Gulf Retreat 1 and Gulf Retreat 2.
Darryl Glenn purchased this condo in 2008
We love Indian Shores because it is the quietest, most relaxed part of Sand Key, the barrier island that runs along the Gulf shore from St. Pete Beach to Clearwater. It is the narrowest part of the Sand Key, only 150-200 yards across where we are located. That means you can enjoy both the Intracoastal Waterway and the Gulf of Mexico only a few steps apart.
Indian Shores is the last part of the coastline in Pinellas County that preserves a small-town feel. Gulf Blvd. is still just a two-lane road and the speed limit is 35 m.p.h. There's is only one traffic light in Indian Shores. There isn't as much asphalt as you see to the south or north of us, a lot fewer high-rise buildings and none of the tourist traps. While you will find all the restaurants and conveniences you need near-by Indian Shores is still primarily a residential, family-oriented community.
Our view is of the Intracoastal Waterway, the body of water that separates Sand Key from the mainland. We love it because of all the boat traffic - it's fun to watch. The dolphins are always a joy to see, too. They are most active early in the morning or at sunset. Manatee are a little harder to spot, but are always around, too.
When the tide is low there is a sandbar that emerges from the water just off our balcony. The seabirds all come to feed there and it's wonderful entertainment.
And the Intracoastal Waterway is beautiful to behold at night, when the lights from the boats and other properties reflect off the surface. You must see it to appreciate it!
And of course the beach is just across the street. It takes just a couple of minutes to get there walking. It's never crowded and always relaxing. We have beach toys, inflatables, beach chairs, an umbrella, a cooler... everything you need except a good book and suntan lotion! And we even have a handy cart to put everything in and wheel it across the street!
Dear Darryl and Isabel:
Thanks for laying on the record-breaking temperatures (!), 93° - 99°, as well as a surperb condo. Stepping in a looking through the wide windows was like watching a wide-screen movie... 24 hours a day.
What a view - and what activity in the inland waterway. We were amazed at the diversity of birds large and small, their hunting differences for the fish - and the constantly jumping fish themselves. And, of course, the magic of dolphin, many and in groups of up to 4. Better than a nature park and all in comfort and shade on the balcony.
Similarly inside (just who else can watch all this activity from their bed?!). All so spacious and comfortable and so well equipped. Liked the garage "car cooler" spot, with the door opener (not all rentals provide this).
Beach just yards away was great, but much better to stay on the inland side. All in the whole family were impressed and delighted by it all. Pity it was not endless!
This is was our first year at Gulf Retreat II but not our last...coming back next year. Everything is just as described on the website. Excellent views of the Intercoastal and all you need to bring is your suitcase! Cross the street and the Gulf is there to enjoy. Darryl is available for any questions or needs...we had a surprise visit from our daughter and grandson and Darryl brought us a port-a-crib. Condo is clean and stocked with anything you might need including a beach wagon, umbrella & beach chairs. Just loved sitting on the balcony and enjoying the dolphin, jumping fish, boats and beautiful nature on the Intercoastal. Fishing from the pier was a plus too! Location is excellent with lots of restaurants and things to do close by. There are no negatives for this beautiful retreat!
As residents of Indiana and its cold winter weather, we were dreaming about our vacation to FL last summer, then remembered we never wrote a review of this amazing condo. First of all, the owners are amazing to work with. They are prompt at responding to any and all questions about the condo and the area. They go over and above any owner we've ever dealt with. For starters, they knew we were bringing our 2 year old with us, and had a pack-&-play set up, complete with linens, and a highchair all ready for us. The condo was plenty spacious for the 4 adults and one little one we were traveling with. The kitchen had everything we needed and more. There was a wagon to carry things back and forth to and from the beach, with lots of beach toys and chairs. The condo is also decorated so nicely- Very comfortable and beautiful! One of our favorite things was the balcony out back. We spent morning, afternoons, and evenings out there. We loved watching the fish, dolphins, manatee, and boats. Even the little one spent lots of time out there watching all of the action. When we travel back to this area, we will definitely be looking to come back!!
This condo has every amenity for a great vacation. An open floor plan with a large great room. Comfortable beds, beautiful furniture in great shape. The kitchen had every appliance, gadget and dish type that we could have asked for. The view is perfect, large view of the intracoastal waterway, we even saw fireworks from the balcony. The owners were great to work with. We highly recommend staying here. We will come back for another visit too!
Our first stay in 2013 was awesome! So, of course we had to come again, and we were not disappointed. It even got better with several dolphin spotting's off the pier and sting ray's too, the kids were delighted! We will be going back! As I have said before this condo is everything it says in the add and so much more!!!! Trust me you will not be disappointed if you stay here!
If you want a great location, fabulous views, quiet beaches, and love to view the local wildlife right from your private balcony STOP, this is the place for you! Daryl and Isabel are awesome and provide you with everything you will need except you clothes, and I mean everything from, toys and movies for the kids, everything you could possibly need to have a fantastic day at the beach including, beach chairs, umbrellas, and towels and an awesome wagon to take it all there in! You will not be disappointed if you stay here!
LOVED IT... Do I need to say more! (See my other review from our first stay here in 2013 below for more details!)
I read a lot of great reviews about the properties, but it was still out of our expectation. The view was amazing, the condo was very clean and beautifully decorated. We were even greeted with a welcoming basket. We had such a great time there. I'd highly recommend this one to anybody.
Is it for sale??? I would like to buy this one. I have draw the architecture plan as the concept is perfect. Very well located, very clean and very comfortable. Large rooms, large windows, nice Intracoastal view. Dolphins, birds and rabbit seen from the balcony. Convenience store next door, gulf beach access across the road, Coffee Shop 10 minutes walking. Soft water swimming pool very well maintained. Thanks for the welcome gift basket.
I have made over 2 weeks of research to find this place and I don't regret my selection....Who can regret this? Just read the other reviews and you'll see. We had more than expected.
