My week vacation in Pensacola Beach
Review Submitted: June 9, 2009
Date of Stay: May 2009
In my 7 night stay,I spent 5 nights soggy/sweaty in the nights and morning due to a/c problems. The first two nights it was cool at night. Problems happen to anyone however the owner refused to compensate me for my inconvenience, because I was expected to remain in the unit during my one week vacation which by the way I don't always get to enjoy every year for the a/c technician to have access to the condo. The owner felt it was unfair for me to get any compensation for nights I spent with out a/c due to me not wanting to spoil my vacation waiting around inside the condo for the a/c technician which was suppose to have access to the condo with a spare key in the lock box on the door as the owner described. The unit only had the balcony and the bedroom window for air ventilation. Think about it, "summer days and nights" with no a/c and only the balcony and a bedroom window to let air in.The owner was also in vacation so I had two choices (stay in the condo and ruin my plans) or ( go out and enjoy what I came to enjoy in Pensacola) which I also drove 10 hours from home to enjoy my vacation would anyone stayed in the unit at the mercy of the owners convenience? Further more their was no internet access in the unit only a phone line. In the ad for this unit its states internet access. The unit was very nice and is in a great area however I could have received way better service.
Owner's Response: Every story always has two sides. Yes, unfortunately in the spring (May 2nd thru the 9th), the air conditioning unit in my rental condo needed to have freon added. The tenant contacted me by phone on the third day of his stay to notify me of the problem. I asked him if he would let the a/c technician make an appointment with him, or could I have them knock first, and then use the key in the lockbox to gain entrance. He stated to me that he did not wish to have anyone enter the premises without him being present. I immediately called my a/c technician and gave him the tenant's cell phone so they could call and make an appointment, which they did. Later in the afternoon I received a call from the technician saying the tenant was not there, yet they had made an appointment with him. When I called the tenant to find out why he didn't keep the appointment, he stated that the appointment time was not convenient with him, yet he was the one that set the appointment and agreed to the time. I told him I would call them back and get another appointment, but he would need to let them in since he did not want the lockbox key used. He agreed. The a/c technician made two more appointments with the tenant, and two more times the technician made a trip to the condo, and two more times the tenant did not keep the appointment. I do not know why the tenant would agree to make an appointment and then not keep the appointment. However, my hands were tied since he did not want anyone to use the lockbox. After the tenant returned to his home, he wrote me a letter asking if I would agree to give him most of his rent back. I told him that since he made three appointments and never kept any of them, or called the technician to cancel them, I was being charged for two service calls. I also told him that he had never asked to move out early and get some of his rent back so he could rent another condo. I told him I thought it was very unfair of him to ask for money after the fact and that I was not going to give him a refund. I feel I did everything in my power to correct the situation in a very timely manner. My condo is very nice and very well maintained, but we all know that sometimes things happen that are out of our control. I did not neglect the problem, and had he kept the very first appointment, or let them use the lockbox, the problem would have been corrected the same day.
