We were told on December 23 that the house we rented in DC was "double booked" and we had no place to stay for our vacation starting December 26. DISASTER. The folks at the Rita Marie bookd me on super short notice, made themselves available throughtout the Christmas holiday, and were lifesavers. Thank you thank you.
The house was great. Big and perfect for our group of 7. It could use a fresh coat of paint in places, and the upstairs bathwater didn't get very hot, but these were minor compared to the convenience and fun of the place. It was city living, but we never felt uncomforable.
Our family sang kareoke, played the video games, walked to the metro everyday, cooked in the kitchen, and felt righ at home. This is far superior to a hotel for us, and I would stay again anytime.
Stay at the Rita Marie and have a ball.
The house was perfect for our reunion. The bedrooms were beautiful and comfortable. The kitchen area was small for our group of 14, but we found everything we needed. The only disappointment was the backyard. There was only a wooden table and chairs and the trash had not been taken away from the previous week. The weather was extremely hot so we did not spend time in the back yard anyway.
When our family gathered in D.C., it was wonderful to have a place to be together. We enjoyed cooking and eating together. The house accommodated our four family units nicely. Unfortunately the hot water did not hold out for 12 showers --so we had to space them out. I guess that would happen at home too. The laundry facilities were very nice.
We were glad we had rented parking spaces because sometimes we could not have found room on the street for all of our cars.
The owner responded quickly when we could not figure out how the TV and security alarm worked.
The house is three stories high and the steps might be too much for someone who is disabled or not used to stairs.
For sightseeing it was nice to be in the city and not have to come in from the suburbs. The Metro is close and access to the interstate highway system is just a few blocks away.
We had a great visit while staying at the Rita-Marie. The location, the amount of space there, and the majority of the accomodations were perfect for our family of 9 (5 kids, 4 adults.) Only three blocks to the metro, four bedrooms and more sleeping space in the living room, enough bathrooms for all of us, karaoke, puzzles, games, televisions, renovated kitchen, plenty of table space and seats between the inside and outside seating areas. This was all great. The washer and dryer were esp. nice to have, so you can pack lightly. We'd recommend staying here for these reasons alone.
The only downsides were - the cleaning people were still working when we arrived, the dishwasher failed from the first day so we did a lot of dishes (it was being replaced when we left), the shower curtain upstairs needs changing (ugh!), we supplied all of the paper products (t.p. and paper towels) after the first couple of days, the kitchen was short on a can opener and serving pieces, the oven/stove powered off at some point and needed to flip the fuse.
The unit has a for sale sign up front, so we were not sure what the arrangements are for showing it. This was a concern as we didn't want people coming in and out while were gone sightseeing.
The management was responsive to our inquiries and requests. A couple of hints: Be sure to make parking arrangements, if you have a car with you. Two large grocery stores are within 1/2 -1 mile, very easy to walk to/from.
This home was very clean. We enjoyed all the space. The home was also close to the B2, 96, 97 buses and Orange/Blue metro stop. We were able to get everywhere we needed. The walk to the Safeway and other little markets was close enough even carrying a few grocery bags. The neighborhood was friendly.
There seemed to be emergency vehicles each night, but it could be the close proximaty to the fire station and main roads.
The home has three stories, so I would say it is not as disability friendly, but there are handrails to enter the home.
My children (2-18) loved the ample supply of televisions, video games, movie players and traditional games available. The kitchen was adequately supplied with dishes and appliances.
