Hale Iki is a one bedroom, one bath cottage with Japanese decor that sleeps two. The front lanai with two teak chairs is located under the orchid festooned branches of a mango tree. In season, perfect mangos drape right over the lanai. This cottage is perfect for couples and honeymooners. The living room's large L-shaped couch is covered in Japanese kimono fabrics. A large teak armoire houses the t.v. and stereo. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything including a new dishwasher. A new teak table and chairs for eating or one can choose the outdoor bamboo pavilion (shared with the other cottage), with seating for eight. The bedroom has a queen sized bed, bench, small dresser and Asian kimono rack. The bathroom has a full tub and shower + fan. Amenities include bamboo pavilion that seats 8 (shared with the other cottage), beach chairs, boogie boards, gas barbeque, cooler, hair dryer, porta-crib, booster seat and beach towels. Across the garden is Meli Meli (two bedroom,) on the same property sleeps four.

About Ross Martineau

Ross and Jeff are transplants from San Francisco. We had the pleasure of staying in these cottages while on vacation and immediately fell in love with them. We are still pinching ourselves that we are now the owners of this charming and unique property. 17 Palms Kauai really is an oasis on an oasis - lush, private and only steps from the beach.

Jeff is a Bay Area native - a former CFO with a background in business management. Ross is originally from New Hampshire. His background is in theatre and fine art, having worked 9 years at the prestigious John Pence Gallery in San Francisco. Ross is now a licensed realtor with Sleeping Giant Sotheby's International Realty. This is our first mid-life crisis - we skipped the red sports car and moved directly to the tropical island.

Located along the Coconut Coast (Kapaa town) on the east side of the island. While only a block away from both the beach and the Coconut Marketplace, the cottages enjoy the privacy of a lushly planted and fenced garden setting. The North and South shores of Kauai are a 30 minute drive away.

Surrounded by 17 majestic palm trees, the two cottages sit at opposite sides of a lushly planted garden. Passion fruit and thumbergia vines cover the fences that enclose the property. The fruit of mango, fig, banana and avocado trees are yours for the picking. Walk into the banana patch and take an outdoor shower. Orchids and herbs fill the small rock garden. A bamboo pavilion is the ideal spot for dinner (it seats 8) or a snooze

  • Hale Iki (1 bedroom-sleeps 2 plus crib) rents for $155 per night. 4 Night Minimum. ($185 per night the weeks of 12/15-1/15). $100.00 non-refundable out-cleaning fee. (A $50 interim cleaning fee will be added to stays of 14 days or more.)

    A 25% deposit (or $300, whichever is greater) will be required to hold your reservation. In addition, when the final balance payment is made, a $200 security deposit is required which will be refunded 14 days after departure, less damage/replacement costs, if any.

    Tax: 13.416% tax added to rental fees (4.166% general excise and 9.25% transient accommodation)

    Payment: Cash, Check, Traveler's Check or Money order

    Cancellation: All fees received are non-refundable. If I rebook the house, I will refund all your money, minus a $50 processing fee.

Our trip to Kauai was made perfect by our stay at Hale Iki. Great place, great location and great hosts in Ross and Jeff. We found the cottage exactly as pictured and would book it again in a minute. We have stayed on the Coconut Coast before and highly recommend this cottage to all ages.

"We cannot say how much we enjoyed our trip and our stay in Hale Iki. The cottage was so wonderful and for me the best part was the upkeep and the decor! Everything a vacationer could need was provided. It was so centrally located that traveling around Kauai was easy and convenient. I thought the cottages were lovely when I looked at your website, but they were lovelier that that! Thank you, Mahalo!

What were we thinking! When we booked out stay on Kauai, we thought it would be best to spend a few nights in various parts of the island. How we wish we had stayed our Entire time at 17 Palms. The location was perfect and the cottage was adorable. Thank you for a lovely stay!
