House - 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s) - 2 Baths - (Sleeps 8-10)

Location, location, location! The location is amazing! The Oakland is in the highly sought after Monroe Park area of North Beach. With views of Lake Michigan from the entire front of the house (1 minute walk to the beach) and views of the harbor from the back of the house, you will always know that you are at the lake. Sit out on the front patio with a cool drink and watch the sun set on the lake - you won't want to leave! A casual 15 minute walk takes you to the shops and restaurants of beautiful downtown South Haven.

The Oakland was built as a resort hotel in 1927 and was first known as 'Mendelson's', and then later as 'The Oakland Resort'. According to the S.H. Historical Society, this is the resort that Clark Gable vacationed at in the '30s. Antique memorabilia of the period is displayed throughout the home.

Now converted into two separate private residences, the Oakland South has over 2100 square feet of sun soaked living space with soaring ten foot ceilings, original millwork trim & windows, and solid wood doors with antique transom vents above the doors.

This is a three bedroom home (one queen, one full, and two sets of bunk beds) which very comfortably sleeps eight, with two full sized baths (perfect for two couples and four children). If an additional bed is needed for two more, there is a queen size sofa sleeper in the den.

The Oakland South was renovated by an interior designer to provide you with all the modern conveniences while maintaining the comfortable feeling that a classic Lake Michigan resort should.

The huge 'North Beach' of South Haven is one of the finest beaches in all of Southwest Michigan. This huge beach of clean, sugar-like sand has all the amenities you could hope for: full concession stand with ice cream cones and hot dogs, clean restrooms, playground equipment, picnic tables, and volleyball courts. The best part about this beach, however, is the fact that there are absolutely NO stairs to climb! Anywhere!!

About Bob and Lynn Bruno

Lynn and I reside in Glenview, Illinois with our 3 daughters: Sophia, Gianna and Bianca. We are a beach loving family and enjoy everything that South Haven has to offer.....the huge beach, walking on the pier, playing in the park and of course, swimming in the lake!

Why Bob and Lynn Bruno chose South Haven

Quick, easy and simple access to the beach with no steps of stairs. We grew up going to other beaches in Michigan and the good memories are diluted by the painful memories of hauling all the stuff up and down all of those stairs! At North Beach, pull a wagon full of your beach toys, coolers and blankets from the house right to the waters edge on the beach. Now that is relaxing!

What makes this house unique

After making our post arrival trip to the grocery store, we love the fact that we rarely ever get back into the car - walking everywhere is great family time. My favorite ritual is taking an early morning walk over the drawbridge into town to the Golden Brown Bakery and surprising the kids with fresh baked donuts and expressos for my wife and I.

Golf: We are a 10 minute drive to the wonderful Arthur Hills designed Hawkshead Links course in South Haven. We are a 20 minute drive to the outstanding Palmer course in Saugatuck called The Ravines.
