Menomonie information only 6 miles away: Once a booming logging village boasting the moniker 'Queen of the Pinery' and former home to the world's largest white pine lumber company, Menomonie today remains a vibrant community and county seat of Dunn County. Residents and visitors alike celebrate the town's energetic past and blossoming future on the shores of Lake Menomin, a short drive west of Minneapolis/St. Paul. Students from the University of Wisconsin-Stout and Chippewa Valley Technical College mix easily with residents and business leaders from local interests including ConAgra Grocery products and the 3 M Company. The lovely downtown community, listed in the National Register of Historic Places, features a vibrant performing and visual arts program highlighted by locations within a park setting. Former homes have been restored as local centers for culture and the arts, & include the theater at the Mabel Tainter Memorial & the Wilson Place Museum. Outdoor activities abound in the area, w/ many parks, hiking and biking.
Lake Tainter Information: 1752 Acres lake. 37 foot max depth. Lots of boating, swimming and fishing every summer. Great cross country skiing, snowshoeing and hiking in winter.
