A Good Deal and Location; Problems for Winter Rental
The price is right, the place clean, and the beach is wonderfully close, but be warned: the property is not equipped for an off-season rental, as the bedrooms stay frigid at night due to lack of insulation around windows and inaccessibility of heating vents. While this is generally not an issue for beach houses, the owner should ensure equal comfort for winter months, since the property is advertised as open during that time (with the incentive of lower prices). In addition, the persistent smell of cigarette smoke (perhaps escaping from the neighboring apartment through the vents) was a turn-off, especially since the owner advertises it as non-smoking. The owner was cheery and prompt in responding to our inquiries, although she gave us incorrect information as to how to gain entry. In general, I would recommend that the owner use a more regimented system of communicating information (a tangible contract, binder of information, and details as to linens would have helped). Still, as I said, the price and location are great, and Folly remains a great place to vacation. I would recommend for budget-conscious travelers during the summer.
