This new luxury home has spectacular views nearly 360 degrees. The home site is on top of a ridge, overlooking bays, islands and the Olympic Mountains to the south and west and over Victorian Valley and Mount Constitution to the east. The 17 acre property has its own one acre pond. Bald eagles and other birds, deer, rabbits, bullfrogs, and an array of other wildlife abound on the property.
The house has two cedar decks on the south and west exposures and a slate patio on the east. Cathedral ceilings are used throughout the house with radiant floor heating in all rooms. The ultra-modern kitchen has a Dacor oven/range, granite counters and a central island. There is both a fireplace and woodstove. The master bathroom has a jacuzzi, two sinks, and a large, customized shower, tiled in India slate.
Large windows are everywhere to maximize the views, and additional light is afforded by skylights and clerestory windows. The house has satellite TV, VCR, DVD, CD player, and wireless internet access. Several bicycles are available in the garage for use by renters.
The driveway comes off a scenic private road which winds through Victorian Valley and is a pleasant place to stroll and jog. Nearby access to the water affords opportunities for whale watching tours, kayaking, sailing and fishing. Orcas Island is famous for its biking, and hiking and mountain biking trails abound in Moran State Park and Turtleback Mountain.
Eastsound with its quaint shops and restaurants is just seven miles away, and other villages, galleries, pottery shops, beaches, inns, and restaurants are scattered throughout the island.

My husband and I spent two glorious and relaxing weeks staying at Blacktail Ridge on Orcas Island! After spending a few days in bustling Seattle, the change of scenery and atmosphere was like a breath of fresh air. The view from every room of this home is simply amazing, especially when the sun sets!!
Blacktail Ridge had so many delightfully pleasant touches that included cozy sitting areas, oriental rugs on the beautiful wood floors, well stocked kitchen, great music selection, decks on 3 sides, comfortable beds, games and puzzles, etc. etc. But, the best part was what brought us to the San Juan Islands from the midwest---the view!!!
We loved our choice of Orcas Island and Blacktail Ridge----close to the ferry landing and about 15 minutes from the quaint and beautiful town of Eastsound where there is a good grocery store and many restaurants and bakeries. The Island has many opportunities including Moran State Park with great trails and scenery for all levels of hikers. We took a whale watching trip from Eastsound and were fortunate to see many Orca whales and even two humpback whales!
One day we took our car on the inter island ferry to San Juan Island and toured the entire Island with many fascinating stops along the way. Our other trips to San Juan were as walk on passengers to the town of Friday Harbor for a change of pace and different restaurant choices. The ferry rides are part of the great Pacific Northwest adventure!
We have stayed at many VRBO homes, but this one was by far the best in so many different ways!!
2 Couples in our 50's and 60's stayed here. This home is one of he highest elevations in the area for living. Beautiful sunsets, stars, and view of he water below. Very quiet, and with 2 decks, where the back deck/patio has a weber bbq. The kitchen is full of utensils, pans, silver ware, and has a dish washer, microwave, and stove/oven. The front room has a fireplace and a wood stove, and there is wood and kindling covered in the patio area. There a 3 beautiful rooms, and 2 bathrooms with showers, with one bathroom having a jackuzi. There are roads and trails just off of the property that are wonderful for walking and even biking. The location provides easy access to many activities on the island. There are kayak and bike shops, restaurants, and stores/shops to look at and buy things if interested. The owner was very accommodating when we asked if we could just stay 2 nights. He was also very helpful with sending us information about things to do in the area. There is nothing to clean up afterwards except for putting dishes, pans, silverware away clean. There were extra pillows and blankets, and even slippers as it is asked that shoes be taken off in the house. Therefore the entire house is very clean, and has many windows letting in lots of light. There is accessible music in each room, televisions, games to play, and wi fi. And finally, the ferry ride is a comfortable just under one hour ride from Anacortes, which is 1 1/2 hours north of Seattle. Dan/Janice, Chris/Julie
This is my favorite VRBO home we have ever stayed in. Orcas Island is such a magical place, and this house felt like home from the moment we walked in. The pictures don't do it justice. You can tell this house is well loved - the beautiful rugs and furniture, the books - it all feels so modern and comfortable without the kitsch of many other rental houses. Andy is the most friendly and helpful host we have ever dealt with. My kids loved playing outside and were delighted watching deer, bunnies and chickens while we reveled in the gorgeous views and sunsets. Even the neighbors were delightful. We plan to go back to this home again and again and felt truly grateful that we were able to stay there. I would highly, highly recommend!
Our family had a most wonderful time at the Blacktail Ridge home. Andy was great to work with, giving helpful suggestions before our trip. The views were breath-taking in just about every direction. Every evening as the sun set it was like watching a painting that kept changing colors. The home's interior felt cozy and spacious. The kitchen was very well-stocked with appliances, even for preparing a Thanksgiving meal. We enjoyed hikes and going into a quaint, nearby town. I only wish we could have stayed longer!
When our family of five stayed at Blacktail Ridge; we did not want to leave the house; and do our vacation spots because the home is absolutely spectacular!!! It is a dream home, situated on a mountain, overlooking the water! Every morning my husband and I would sit out on the deck area, and watch the birds, see beautiful, multi-hued sunsets, and relax to Andy's top of the line music selection, and watch the sea! Luxury and beauty is abundant in every room of the home! Even the main bathroom, has a jacuzzi tub that has a window with a view! The beds and furnishings were luxuriously comfortable and top of the line in quality! The kitchen was full of new appliances, gorgeous dishes, tons of cutlery and cookware; everything a family would need for the perfect stay! We could easily cook gourmet dinners in this kitchen! It was large, and had a great butcher block in the middle,PERFECTION! Andy has thought of everything for a vacation, sumptuous couches in the living room, with windows facing the view, a barbecue in the rear of the house with patio furniture, a music selection that was incredible, from Paul McCartney to Orcas Folk; a large television for family viewing; and a private den area with a great couch for reading and a fantastic selection of books. Our family ate at the Inn at Ship Bay, which was Andy's recommendation and perfect! We also took a dinner boat ride to see the local sealife and seals. Every day was an adventure and a joy! Andy was extremely helpful with tips about great restaurants, local kayaking adventures and trips. The listing is completely accurate. It was the perfect home away from home for my family! Orcas Island is one of our favorite islands in the San Juan chain, and everyone should spend at least a week at Andy's house to fully enjoy the magnificence of this special paradise, Orcas!
We had the pleasure of staying on Orcas Island for a week and staying at this home. As other reviewers have stated, Andy is an absolute JOY to work with. He initially spent over 30 minutes on the phone with me giving me an overview of all of the islands so that I could make an informed decision as to where to stay, and in the end, we chose Orcas Island. This home did NOT disappoint! Andy was extremely responsive, and he even took the time to give us step-by-step instructions, a list of sights and great restaurants to visit.
The house itself was absolutely spectacular. The pictures were spot on, so scenic and beautiful. Sunsets were stunning. The house was very clean, spacious and fully stocked with everything we needed to make our visit an extremely comfortable one. The home itself is located in a quiet, serene ridge top location.
I HIGHLY recommend that anyone visiting Orcas Island stay at this home. Not only was the house everything we would have asked for and more, our experience with Andy the owner made the whole experience that much better!
