Area::
Barbados is the most eastern island in the Caribbean, and is a tiny dot on most world maps with an area of 21 X 14 miles and 60 miles of coastline. Barbados has a population of about 254,000 and a literacy rate over 97%.
Independent since 1966, with historical ties to England, thus the language and driving on the left. The local people and the dialect of English used are known as Bajan. The economy has been dependent on sugarcane with diversification recently into manufacturing and tourism.
