Overview

Norden House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms + Bunk Area, 3.5 Baths, (Sleeps 15)

This is a great house on a sunny lot in Soda Springs! It is BIG! - almost 3,000 square feet. It is perfect for large family gatherings or getting together with friends. It sleeps 19 people in beds and futons and has 3 1/2 BATHROOMS (that's important)!!! BRING THREE FAMILIES and share the expenses.

In the late spring, summer, and fall, there is boating, hiking, fishing, rock climbing, and both mountain and road biking -- something for everyone. HIKERS will enjoy the PACIFIC CREST TRAIL, just two miles from the house. MOUNTAIN BIKERS can experience the HOLE IN THE GROUND single track trail, which is rated 11th in the world for advanced bikers. It actually passes in front of our house. Donner Summit is a ROCK CLIMBERS paradise. There are hundreds of routes on beautiful granite, right off the road two miles from the house. Most are Class 5. Donner Lake is five really beautiful miles away and Ice Lakes (Serene) is two miles away.

For downhill skiers, the house is two miles from Sugar Bowl or Donner Ski Ranch and four miles from Boreal. Northstar, Squaw Valley, and Alpine Meadows are about 30 minutes away. Soda Spings Mountain Resort is a quarter mile away and designed for young kids and families. Royal Gorge, the LARGEST cross country ski resort in North America, is less than a quarter mile from our house.

The first floor is a bunk room/game room. It is IDEAL FOR TEENAGERS! It has a queen futon, two full futons, and two bunk beds. One of the bunk beds has a full size bed on the bottom. There is also a pool table, a ping-pong table, two TV's, a stereo, a DVD player, and an Xbox. The first floor is heated with a large propane fireplace and has a full bathroom. The entry room on the first floor also has a queen futon and can be closed off for privacy to create a FOURTH bedroom.

The second floor is BEAUTIFUL - very rustic and warm with vaulted, open beam ceilings and lots of windows. It has a "great room" style living room, dining room, and kitchen; a master bedroom and bathroom; a laundry room (laundry soap and fabric sheets are provided); and a half bath. The master bedroom has a queen-size bed. The kitchen is spacious and fully furnished. The living room includes a very efficient propane fireplace.

The third floor has two bedrooms and a full bath. One bedroom has a queen-size bed and the other has a full-size bed.

LINENS ARE INCLUDED for all beds and futons.

We have a sunny front deck and a shady back deck with a gas bar-b-que. The one-car garage has SLEDS and SNOW SHOES as well as places to store your gear. There is also a horse shoe pit and a really cool OFF ROAD GOLF COURSE behind the house. The house is on a road that is plowed well and often. There is parking for five vehicles.

This is a dog friendly home. You know your dog. If you're going to be out all day and leave your dog in the house, make sure he or she can handle that kind of situation. We do not have a fenced yard. There is an additional one-time $25 fee for pets.

We love our house and look forward to our own family gatherings. We really enjoy sharing it with other families and absolutely love hearing about their visits. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

About The Owner

My husband and I love the Tahoe area and we’ve been looking for the right house for years. We found this great house in Soda Springs and talked my parents into buying it with us. Our family has so much fun up there! We like to ski/board, snow shoe, hike, bike, kayak, play horseshoes and cards, eat, drink, and generally enjoy life! Because the house is big, it holds the whole family – three generations. It’s a wonderful place to get together and we really enjoy sharing it with others and hearing their stories!

The Owner purchased this house in 2007

Why The Owner chose Norden

Soda Springs is a really great area. It’s a very small town with a Mom & Pop grocery store, a couple of ski/board rental shops, and sometimes a gas station! Everyone says it’s what Tahoe used to look like. Soda Springs offers the perfect small town atmosphere and we have Truckee, with all of it's ammenities, just 15 minutes away. We have Donner Lake and Ice Lakes within five minutes of the house and a creek a really short walk away. Sugar Bowl, Boreal, Donner Ski Ranch, Soda Springs Ski Resort, and Royal Gorge are between one and five minutes away. We have neighbors, but don’t live in a neighborhood with someone right next door. There are pine trees everywhere!

Fun Family Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Although we didn't have much snow, our families had a lot of fun! We had both kids and dogs and this wonderful home was very accommodating! The lower floor with a pool table, ping pong, bunk beds, etc. was perfect for all of the cousins to play and hang out! The bedrooms were great for the adults and the overall floor plan had an open, spacious feel. The decks provided a good place for hanging out for us and the dogs too! The surrounding grounds were a nice place for their Off-Road Golf game and also horseshoes! Location is great too - short drive to hike around Donner Lake. Very hospitable owners and easy to communicate with. Thank you for a wonderful place to stay!

Great time at a great location!!

  • 5 of 5

Time of visit: We rented this home during the snow season

Recommended: YES! (highly)

This is a very nice house, in a very convenient location, and it is spacious enough to accommodate large families. The home is setup to be very guest friendly and the owners are very hospitable in that they make their supplies and equipment available for use. It is about 0.5 miles from Soda Springs resort (our purpose for coming to Soda Springs) and has quick access to the highway.

During our stay it snowed almost the entire time and we got a good 6 to 7 inches of snow (if not more) each of the two days that we were there. Having the mud room was a definite blessing, as it gave us a great place to dress the kids in their snow clothes and even more so an area to undress them from their snow clothes/boots (without getting the main parts of the house wet).

Some of the things we loved:

• Accommodates 3+ cars

• The bunk room stays warm when using the propane furnace.

• The mud room stays fairly warm (tolerable) with the provided space heater

• Tank-less water heater works great (make sure to turn it on and you may need to check it in the morning to ensure the temperature is high enough)

• Great kitchen (open layout)

• Good space around the house (for young kids to play in the snow).

• House is right off the main road, but not really much traffic (while kids were playing outside)

• Plenty of towels are provided in each bathroom

• Board and card games are available, along with a pool table and ping-pong table in the bunk room.

• Rechargeable flashlights are provided through-out the house (plugged into the wall outlets). Nice!

Tips:

• Master bedroom does get cold. Be sure to verify that a space heater is in the master bedroom

• The ceiling fans on the second floor are controlled by remote. If the remote is not in the living room, check the kitchen drawers (that’s where we found it)

great times at soda springs!

  • 5 of 5

it is my great pleasure to recommend this wonderful family home for a winter (or summer) get away. the layout is almost perfect in that there is space to be together and space to get away from each other (makes for ever lasting family enjoyment!!). three generations (1 grandparent, 3 adult children and 5 teen grandchildren.... great grama couldn't make it but she would have loved it!)

the owners are really efficient in how they have things set up and very sharing with supplies, equipment, etc that is helpful. you can tell that they have been doing this vrbo stuff for a while as i think every question was answered before we asked it. and while i would not like typically to be right off of the main road, in this case (winter) is sure made it nice and easy to come and go from the house....

Great family home!!!

  • 5 of 5

Thank you Colleen for renting us your home this last weekend. My family had so much fun. The house was clean and fully stocked for large families and also very tastefully decorated. There were plenty of things for entertainment like pool table, ping pong table, cards, multiple TVs, Xbox, music system and some board games. There were lot of mosquitoes outside in the woods but they had plenty of mosquito repellent sprays available which I thought very generous of them. I would definitely go back.

Wonderful property!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stayed at this rental home over the 4th of July week and loved it! 3 families, 5 kids, 1 dog and PLENTY of room for everyone to run around and play. It was delightful! We even saw grizzly bears in the back yard! We would go back in a heartbeat! Thanks, Colleen!

Overall Great!

  • 5 of 5

This house is great. I would certainly rent it again. It has everything you need and so convenient to all the fun stuff around. We had a large party of 16 (8 kids) and it worked out perfect! My sister in law brought her dog. I was worried because it was pet friendly there would be animal smell but the house did not smell of animals, so that was good. The house was very clean upon arrival. The mud room however is not a good place to consider sleeping in, but a perfect place for a mudroom. It made the whole experience easier for access to the snow and the kids being able to "gear up" and play in the back, then "gear down" and get comfy in the house again. Just perfect!! The owner has supplied the house with snow shoes which are great for the adults so we don't struggle in the snow,.allowing us to run around with the kids in back. I must say we were very fortunate when we went because there was a very solid base of snow and pure sun with a cold front so everything was ideal, weather wise. I would certainly recommend this to anyone and I would definitely rent this house again. The only "knock", and not a big deal, was low water pressure. Upstairs shower dribbles if someone flushes toilet, etc but that's really minor as the pressure comes back on shortly. The water was always hot, they must have a tankless water heater, no problem with hot water at all.
