About Kathy

We both grew up by the sea, David in Ireland, Kathy in San Francisco and we always knew that however far away we moved from it, we would always come back. After we met in college, we traveled much of the world together. We saw Tahiti, Fiji, the Indian Ocean, the Great Barrier Reef, the South China Seas, but it was Maui and the stretch of beach in front of the Mahana that captured our hearts. We bought our first condo at the Mahana in 1977. Over the years, we returned to Maui and the Mahana for a month every summer. For our children, it was a second home. Now young adults, they still love coming back every chance they can. Once you have been to the Mahana, you’ll want to come back too!

Why Kathy chose Kaanapali

We fell in love with the Mahana in 1977. We were walking along the North Kaanapali Beach. The sun was setting between the islands of Lanai and Molokai. It was the most amazing sight! We turned around and saw the Mahana. It was so close to the water and all of the condos faced the ocean front on with floor-to-ceiling ocean views. We knew right then and there that we had to buy one of these beachfront homes. For us it was the view and the view and the view! We bought our first Mahana condo (#818) then. We bought this condo (#708) in 2001 and our third one (#819) in 2004. Today, after all of these years, we still love coming back as often as we can!

What makes this condo unique

For us it’s a home away from home. In winter we love watching the whales, in summer it’s the dolphins and turtles. I love getting up to see the dawn coming up over the ocean. My husband is mesmerized by the stars. We all enjoy walking or jogging on the beach, swimming and snorkeling in the crystal clear blue water below, exploring all the other nearby beaches, Kapalua Bay, Napili Bay, Fleming Beach, Honolua Bay. We also love going to the Farmers market for fresh papaya and mangos and finding local fish to grill back at the Mahana. It’s the majesty of the ocean and the mountains. It’s the trade winds and the friendly people. It’s something else -totally special - that is just impossible to describe. You have to come to Maui and the Mahana and you will experience it yourself!

A piece of Paradise

Our stay at Mahana #708, was absolutely fabulous! What a piece of Paradise, the views from the living room and lani were stunning! The condo was decorated with exquisit wood furnishings and art piece, really made you feel at home! There was a vase with fresh flowers in them, and oh how that made you feel special! The condo was clean and prepared with every thing you needed, nothing was desired! The day we left we got to meet Kathy the owner, what a beautiful Lady she is and really cared how your stay was and if you needed a late check out, very accommadating. We will be back at the Mahan next year...we will be looking at their 2 bedroom to rent. Hopefully it will be available! Maholo...Kathy and Dave for sharing your piece of paradise with us!

Great location, incredible views, well-laid out condo & great customer service!

My husband, my 8 & 5 yr. olds and husband just came back from spending 7 days in Kathy's condo. We made the right decision to stay there. The condo is very clean, has everything you need to make your stay perfect (well-stocked kitchen even with spices, washer/dryer, beach chairs & towels...); has incredible unobstructed views- the bedroom, living room and lanai face the ocean- we woke up and went to bed listening to the awesome ocean waves & ate our breakfast every morning in the lanai. The Mahana itself is well maintained with very friendly staff- parking is so easy and you are located in such a great area. We went to the nearby Farmer's Market and got some great stuff. Kathy was extremely attentive before and during our stay. We will definitely stay here next time we come to Maui.

Birthday in Maui

We had a great time in your condo in early December. The view is absolutely breathtaking and you almost feel as if you are in the beautiful ocean. We saw sea turtles frequently as we would be enjoying the view. Many, many things are in walking distance and it is just so relaxing and comfortable. I would definitely return to this condo. Fabulous Maui

We had a great five nights on Maui and really enjoyed Mahana 708. The unit is so close to the water that you have to walk to the window and look down to see the beach. Within walking distance is a small shopping center with grocery store and pharmacy - everything you need to stock food or replace forgotten items. Great sunset view from either the living room or the bedroom/lanai. The full kitchen meant lazy mornings since we didn't have to go out to find breakfast. Plenty of parking for the rental car and we drove everywhere except the road to Hana. Very short drive to Whaler's Village or Lahaina Town, or you can just hang out and relax at the pool.

Perfect Condo on West Maui

We enjoyed a terrific week at the Mahana. The condo is very clean and has all the amenities you will need. We were surprised to find a few beach chairs and a cooler that had been left from a previous guest. The location is perfect 10 minutes to Lahina, grocery store within walking distance, and a fist market very close by. We enjoyed the pool most days and it was very quiet. Also, we spent most nights grilling fish at the provided grills by the pool and enjoying a beautiful sunset dinner on the lanai.

We would definitely stay here again!

We couldn't believe our eyes when we first walked through the door, and that feeling of amazement never left throughout our 5 days here. I would have given anything to stay on an extra week!
