The House at Libeen is situated 6 miles from Schull on the Mizen Peninsula in an elevated position with wonderful views from all windows over Dunmanus Bay, the Sheeps Head Peninsula, and Mount Gabriel. It is a cottage style, stone built house in an acre garden which is totally enclosed by old stone walls where wild fuchsia grows in profusion. The house is light, spacious, and furnished to a very high standard. It is well equipped, and can sleep 6 plus a baby very comfortably. The location is well placed to access Schull, Ballydehob (5 miles), and Baltimore (12 miles) on the Roaring Water Bay side of the peninsula as well as Bantry (7 miles), Glengariff (12 miles) and beyond on the Dunmanus Bay side, all of which have many excellent pubs and gourmet restaurants. The countryside around is beautiful and rugged and is good for walking and cycling. There are excellent golf courses in Bantry, Glengariff and Schull plus lovely sandy beaches around Crookhaven and Barley Cove.

The Mizen Peninsula is at Ireland's most south-westerly point and is a rugged and beautiful area with many islands off the coastline, which can be discovered via ferries from Schull and Baltimore. There are many ancient sites with stone rings, castles and wedge tombs as well as mountains, sandy beaches and rocky coves. Dolphins, Minke whales and seals are regularly sighted from the cliffs around the Mizen. If fresh fish is your fancy, there are many options: Boats can be hired in Schull to catch your own Mackerel or Pollack - we have found the waters around Schull to be teeming with these fish in Summer. Alternatively a wide range of locally caught prawns, lobsters and other fish can be bought direct from the fishermen as they land them at a number of local harbours.

A Slice of Paradise in County Cork

Our stay at the House at Libeen will always be one of our best travel experiences ever! Our group of six people (three teenagers and three adults) were overwhelmed by the size and beauty of the cottage and its setting amidst the most stunning scenery we encountered during our two weeks in Ireland. The home is spacious, spotless and restful. The glass conservatory overlooking the little rabbits on the lawn, the surrounding mountains and sea was our favourite spot to rest after day-trips to the nearby beaches, quaint villages or a hike through the countryside. The owners were terrific in recommending places to eat and tour. We loved the farmers' market in Schull, the shopping in Skibbereen, wild surf of Barley Cove and the famous crab sandwiches in Crookhaven. The Mizen Peninsula is rugged, beautiful and captivating, and the House at Libeen is perfectly situated to explore it. We've rented other homes in other parts of the world, and this was by far the best! We will definitely return one day.
