About Robyn and Jim

We are a family of 4 who have been coming to Acadia every year since 1989. Jim came to visit Acadia National Park as part of a Marine Biology class for college and fell in love with Acadia. When Robyn graduated from college, Jim wanted to take her somewhere special, and so we went to Acadia. We fell in love with the beautiful mountains and cliffs that overlook oceans, the lakes and the woods, and just enjoying nature. We loved the lighthouse and the natural seawall that are nearby. We also enjoyed the laid-back, slower lifestyle of the Down-easter’s. We loved Acadia so much, that we purchased a piece of land with the hopes of retiring in Acadia some day. We were fortunate enough to be able to build a home on that land and begin using it in 2006 and offer you the chance, as well, to use it also to enjoy the piece of heaven we found in Acadia. Our family loves to vacation here each year, and we know that once you visit, you will love Acadia, too!

Robyn and Jim purchased this house in 2006
Why Robyn and Jim chose Acadia National Park

Our home is in a quiet, wooded area where you can enjoy wildlife as well as peace and quiet. We like to watch the birds, deers, squirrels, chipmunks, and rabbits. We have seen a fox and coyote also. We also enjoy the wild flowers in the garden as well as the humming birds and dragonflies that visit daily. Our neighborhood is safe. Children can ride bikes in the neighborhood since it is off the main road and has very little traffic. We love that we are close to many Acadia National Park areas, especially Echo Lake, Seawall (great place to see shooting stars), and Bass Harbor Lighthouse, yet not in the noisy, crowded areas at night when we wish to get a good night's rest for the next days activities. We can even ride our bikes to the town post office to catch the FREE Island Explorer bus. These buses are the Best deal on the island. We love hiking the near-by trails and looking at the Milky Way at night. You have never seen so many stars, except maybe at a planatarium.

What makes this house unique

We have gone out of our way to make our home comfortable for you and ourselves. Our home is much more than just a rental. We also use this house for vacation, so you know it's comfortable and well stocked. We have added many, many extras such as nightlights, flashlights, extra supplies in case you forget to buy them the 1st time you are at the market. There are even cookbooks, DVD's, Books, Games, and puzzles (great for rainy days). We have an overflowing Welcome Package chalked full of ideas for your vacation. We also enjoy using the picnic table and grill to enjoy the outdoors and wildflower garden.

Hillcrest Cottage

5 of 5
Submitted: September 4, 2008 Stayed: August 2008
We recently spent a week in Robyn and Jim Simon's lovely Hillcrest Cottage in Southwest Harbor, Maine. Their home is situated on a secluded, peaceful property. All the linens, towels, dishes, pots and pans that you could possibly need are provided. There is even a lobster pot for those adventurous enough to cook their own. Don't let the unfinished second floor scare you away. There were six of us, and we had PLENTY of room to spread out and relax!
Mount Desert Island is the home to Acadia National Park, a nature wonderland. Everywhere you look is a 'Kodack moment'! There is SO much to do - hiking biking and swimming. And, after a day of satisfying exercise, you can relax at night by strolling in Bar Harbor, eating a delicious homemade ice cream cone and looking at all of the interesting shops.
A trip to Mount Desert Island is a must for everyone, and what better place to stay than Hillcrest Cottage!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for the kind and thoughtful words. We are SO glad that you enjoyed your time here in Acadia. We have tried hard to furnish our home with all the comforts you would expect to find in your own home and truly make it your home away from home. And we try hard to provide you with suggestions of things to see, do, and places to eat to help you experience as much of Acadia as possible during the time you are there. We love Acadia so much and wanted you to have memorable experiences also. Thanks again for your thoughtfulness of sharing your experiences.

Fantastic vacation!, July 27, 2012

Submitted: February 25, 2013 Stayed: July 2012
We had a great trip to Acadia. We travelled from Toronto, Canada. The house worked very well for us. There was enough room for the five of us and it afforded us the opportunity to prepare many of our own meals. The owners are great communicators and provided a lot of helpful information, both before we travelled and while we were in Maine. The house is about a half hour drive from Bar Harbor and about 10 minutes away from the Echo Lake entrance to Acadia Park. We didn't try the restaurants right in Southwest Harbor, but did use the bike rental store, which had better prices and great service.

This is a nice property and a good value. It is on the quiet side of the island on a large wooded secluded lot yet convenient to stores. It is close to both Southwest Harbor and Bass Harbor. The house was very clean upon arrival. The owners make every effort to make your stay comfortable and are very helpful regarding restaurant recommendations, attractions, etc. if you need them. The home is spacious for a couple and would be comfortable for two couples or a couple with 3-4 kids. We will definitely rent this home again. Chester, VA

There were six of us, and we had PLENTY of room to spread out and relax!Mount Desert Island is the home to Acadia National Park, a nature wonderland. Everywhere you look is a 'Kodack moment'! There is SO much to do - hiking biking and swimming. And, after a day of satisfying exercise, you can relax at night by strolling in Bar Harbor, eating a delicious homemade ice cream cone and looking at all of the interesting shops.A trip to Mount Desert Island is a must for everyone, and what better place to stay than Hillcrest Cottage!

This home was well located close to Southwest Harbor on the quiet side of the island. It was in close proximity to hiking trails, canoeing and local restaurants. It was clean and had all of the amenities. Robyn and Jim left many suggestions for restaurants and trails to make our stay more enjoyable.

Owner's Response: We appreciate your kind words. We are happy that you got to enjoy all the many activities that make Acadia NP so irresistible. We tried hard to make our home be your home away from home by providing a well stocked home with many little extras as well as a welcome package overflowing with ideas of things to see and do even on rainy days. Thanks so much for taking the time to share your experiences with us.
