Built in 1994, this cozy house sits on a hillside sloping down to the ocean and has 200 yards of shorefront. Located on the west side of Vinalhaven Island, the house with deck offers spectacular sunset views of the many uninhabited islands of Penobscott Bay and the Camden hills in the distance. It has kitchen conveniences, stacked washer-dryer, a bright sunny dining room, and a step-down living room with picture window and huge granite fireplace. Vinalhaven is reached by an hour and a half ferry ride from Rockland, and our house is a three mile ride from the ferry landing. Island activities include hiking, biking, birding, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, and swimming in Vinalhaven's deep fresh water quarries.

Nearest Ferry: Maine State Ferry Service -- Vinalhaven/Rockland at 3 Miles
Car: recommended
Vinalhaven Island is 12 miles out to sea by ferry from Rockland. The island is 9 miles long and 3 miles wide, with a year-round population of about 1200 people which doubles in the summer. Lobster fishing is the primary source of income for the island. The village of Carver's Harbor is quiet, has no movie theater, but does have a couple of simple restaurants and little shops. The rest of the island is rural and wooded. There are some conservation areas and nice walks, as well as several deep fresh water swimming quarries.
