This was the ideal "halfway point" for my family and my sister's family to spend a summer vacation together. We were all amazed at the treatment and information we received, from the owner, even before our journey began. Pam made sure all bases were covered and was even willing to add any personal touches that we may require. We definitely had a full house but there was plenty of room to spread out and enjoy our own piece of serenity.Upon driving up to the house, we stopped to just enjoy the gorgeous piece of property that would be ours for the next week. The land (and privacy) that this place offered is hard to find these days.It was the perfect location to do some awesome sightseeing-Cheyenne Mnt Zoo,Olympic Training Center,Garden of the Gods,Santa's Workshop, shopping in Manitou Springs, cliff dwellings in Manitou,Molly Kathleen Gold Mine tour,Pikes Peak, great restaurants and shopping-all within 20-30 minutes. This place had it all...we couldn't keep the kids away from the exploring and fishing/boating on the pond!Actually, when asked what their favorite part of the trip was, everyone said staying at the house! We had volleyball & badminton games going, relaxing in the hammock, glass of wine on the decks, hiking, family boardgames, movie nights, etc. We have been on the hunt to find a great place for my family (in Phoenix) to join my sister's family (from Kansas) to spend summer vacations together and this was perfect! We have already started our discussions for where to try next year but when we write out our list, Trout Creek is where we all come back to!Now we just need to decide on what week (or two) we can all fit into our schedule next year!Pam was extremely helpful and made sure we were taken care of...even leaving us a wonderful "Welcome" basket full of goodies! We loved her so much that we invited her to keep us company one evening and we really enjoyed our time with her.We have already recommended this property to all of our friends and even passed the word around while we were exploring the area and meeting other vacationers. This place really can't be beat!Thank you Pam and David for sharing this home with us and allowing us to have such an incredible family vacation! We will be back...
We rented the Villa for a family reunion/vacation last June and were so happy we chose this vacation retreat! The reunion was in Colorado Springs and I was hesitant about the distance to the Springs from the Villa, but was assured it was only 40 min., and it was! The drive to the Springs is easy and, like so much of CO, picturesque. I am so glad we stayed at the Villa instead of in the Springs. We felt like we truly had a mountain get away vacation!
The home itself has everything you could ask for; a well stocked kitchen, comfy beds with nice linens, great layout, room to gather and spend time together, or go off for some alone time. We had two toddlers and when we got there we found two pack-n-plays and two high chairs (one of them looked brand new!).
There was a drought while we were there, so no fires in the fire pit, and we were asked to conserve water until the water truck could make it's delivery the next day. We tried to be conscious of our water use the whole week, and were much more aware of this when we returned home too.
Everyone enjoyed fishing on the pond, although they threw most of them back for future visits. We had 3 generations fishing at one time! This will probably never happen again. The poles are there and ready to go. (Funny story: we sent Dad out to find the highchair in the garage, but instead he found the fishing poles and headed straight to the pond!)
We cooked most of our meals at the Villa, which is easy thanks to the spacious, well appointed kitchen. It is stocked better then most peoples home kitchens! We cooked out on the grill and then sat by the patio to eat. There is also a table just outside the kitchen that is perfect for your morning coffee! All of the patio areas are enclosed with a glass railing, so you don't have to worry about the kids falling/wandering off.
We took day trips to the zoo in the Springs (feed the giraffes!), Manitou Springs (best ice cream), and tubing down the Platte river. The tubing was enjoyed by everyone, although some of us just sat our chairs in the river to cool off.
We did have lunch out after the zoo at Rudy's BBQ, which is right on Rt.24. It was delicious and you can get family size servings and share.
Pam and David are super helpful, yet not intrusive. They have lots of info available for both the house and things to do. When I couldn't get a dvd to play for the grandkids, Pam came to my rescue!
Hope we can come back again sometime!
My husband and I loved this place. Peaceful, gorgeous home and not so far from town. Mule deer outside our window, each morning grazing. This place is just beautiful and very relaxing. Hiking was great but very easy to get to all attractions as well. Great time. We'll be back!
Our arrival was accomodated slightly early, which was a surprise and such a convenience! Driving into the house and up the road we were so excited to see the huge amount of snow that was everywhere. The drive from Texas had not promised much other than brown snowdrifts on the road, but the seclusion and tree cover had left the groud virtually untouched since the last snowfall it seemed. Sorry to say we did not do the same! By the end of the week we had hiked and wandered on almost every inch of the property. The kids made good use of the sleds in the garage as well as the ice skates and we went on almost daily excursions looking for animal tracks and new finds. The house was amazing and well stocked with most everything we could need in the kitchen and bathrooms, and nice soaps and other products. The beds were great and the linens were soft with enough blankets to make us feel cozy and throws on the couch. We spent our time doing puzzles, watching the TV, and staring at the scenery from every room. It snowed there on New Years Eve, which made for a great ride up the Pike's Peak Cog Railway on New Years Day! We drove to Breckenridge and went sledding all day at one of the parks, and cooked delicious food and treats every day. We had some good card games and a few early nights as well as late. The kids and adults all enjoyed the spacious and safe area and it was one of the most wonderful vacations we've had in a while. I use homeaway and other sites for almost all our trips, and this is the first time I have given a review. Your money and time will be well spent to rent this home if your goal is to disconnect and recharge in a beautiful place with people you love!
I cannot say enough good things about the Trout Creek property and its owners. I would rent this home again in a heartbeat and hope to stay here again on future visits.
The house is impeccably kept. It shows no wear and tear at all from being a vacation rental. Not a nick or stain anywhere! The furniture, linens, kitchenware, etc are all high quality and in perfect condition. It feels like staying as a guest in someone's well-tended home.
They have thought of everything - every last detail. We appreciated small things that the owners provided, such as not only fishing poles and tackle boxes but also Power Bait. They had toboggans and ice skates in a range of sizes (adult and child). We enjoyed ice skating on the frozen pond! We also fished in the nearby lake (since the pond at the house was frozen over), and we would not have done these things if they had not been thoughtfully provided. The owners even put pen and notepads by the phone, boxes of Kleenex everywhere, laundry detergent in the washroom, spices and condiments, etc. The outdoor fire put was well stocked with mountains of cut firewood, long matches, and kindling.
The location is quite removed from the bustle. In heavy snow weather, you might need AWD for the entry drive (a long dirt road). You should also be aware that the town is at a higher altitude than CO Springs, which we definitely felt for the first day or two.
We loved everything about the home, loved the windows and views, loved the linens, loved the entire experience. The owners were very helpful and friendly, too. Everything was above and beyond expectations. Thank you so much for your hospitality!
Trout Creek Home has the most attractive and informative website we've ever seen for a vacation rental. Unfortunately, most don't live up to their words and photos. TCH does in every way. The site and the house were creatively conceived and beautifully executed. The house is well appointed, down to the spice collection in the kitchen. One caveat, we weren't able to verify that there are any trout in the pond. But, then again, experience has proved we are infinitely better at fishing than catching!
The above superlatives aside, the best recommendation we can give TCH resulted from a bad experience while staying there. On our first full day, Sunday, Fathers' Day, the drain system plugged, backing up showers and toilets alike, and mildly flooding one bathroom and adjoining carpeted area. This with three grandchildren and their parents visiting! We reported our problem to Pam, who got a plumber out in fairly short order to fix the problem. Additionally, Pam got her housekeepers out to clean up the mess and spent considerable time there herself overseeing the efforts and collecting the towels we had used to sop up the mess and taking them to the laundry. We were back in business in time for a Fathers' Day BBQ that evening.
Pam and David earned our highest respect and appreciation for the way they responded to our adversity. They were FIRST CLASS.
