Casita Verde --
Our home is in a gated walled complex in one of the best locations in San Miguel. Directly in front is the new 6 star hotel, Rosewood Artesana. The house has 3 bedrooms, 3-1/2 baths with a beautiful, quiet, back garden and casita with a gas grill and fireplace. It is impeccably furnished with colonial antiques, striking art and new upholstered pieces. Gas heaters are installed for winter and ceiling fans for warm weather.
A brand new kitchen contains everything! A charming breakfast room boasts antique cabinets with old mesquite doors. The living room has its own TV set plus shelves with colonial art.. Our dining room is adjacent to the garden and together with the outdoor tables in the jardin accomodates 15 people at a sit down dinner.. Mounted on the outside wall is a gentle lion head fountain.
A pleasant upstairs sunroom and roof terrace offer views of the Parroquia, other churches, the park, the mountains, sunrise and the birds coming home to roost.
Born in Manhattan, New York and raised in New Jersey I moved to Mexico in 1964. My children were born and brought up in Mexico City. I have been fascinated with San Miguel since the 60.s and always wanted to retire there. Additionally, I am the founder of the first nutrition clinics in Latin America and had 33 offices in 13 states of Mexico.
Needless to add that I know Mexico better than many native born Mexicans
Dolores Green purchased this townhome in 1994
The location is superb and our street is outstandingly beautiful There 2 exits: front and back. Exiting through the front gate we are located directly in front of the 6 star Rosewood Artesana Hotel and if you leave through our back Tenerias gate the 5 star Hotel Matilda is across the street. The Jardin is a 3 block relatively flat walk through the back exit and the Instituto one and a half blocks. Parque Juarez and the playground are just 1/2 block away.
Our place is totally secure with 24 hour vigilance within and two major hotels front and back. We have never had any incidents during the lst 18 years. My property has an on-site administrator who will help with the hot water heater, burned out light bulbs, plumbing problems, etc. The house has a delightful casita which boasts a gas fireplace and a large gas grill. And, during the cool nights you will appreciate the 3 gas fireplaces and the wall installed heater.
My family and I have rented this home several times over the past few years and have always found it to be a wonderful place to stay. The property manager (Anselmo) and the maid (Paula) were extremely helpful and kind. It is truly and family atmosphere and we recommend it to anyone visiting San Miguel de Allende.
I had the privilege of staying in this beautiful home on two occasions. I would go back in a heartbeat and likely will in the future.
The location is spectacular. San Miguel has a wonderful Hardin plaza and the proximity to this active spot is perfect. It is a little removed (about 4 blocks) from the hustle and bustle of the main plaza which makes it ideal and more quiet.
The privacy of the gated community is notable and really gives a sense of security. Anselmo, the caretaker is right there to solve all questions and make sure the water bottle was full.
The house is beautifully appointed and spacious. The back patio boasts a full barbeque and two lovely tables for guests to gather. We often cooked in the kitchen and found it to be well equipped.
Most of the places I have been in Mexico do not have great water pressure and this is no different, but with 3 1/2 baths you have lots of choices.
I recommend this home to families, couples and lone travelers. You will find it a wonderful home away from home.

Title: A BIG disappointment
Review: We rented this house for two weeks over the Xmas season of 2012 and were very unhappy. A bed for our pregnant 30-year-old daughter-in-law was promised but was never provided. The oven couldn't be used because we didn't know how to keep the racks level. The maid didn't know how to keep them level either. The microwave was unfathomable and no directions were included and the maid didn't know how to work it. All of the roof (not terrace - roof) furniture was filthy when we arrived and we had to extract it and clean it numerous times. No manuals were provided for anything and the maid and neighbour who were supposed to help us provided no guidance. Where was a property manager????? During the very cold nights, the fireplace in the big bedroom did not function. It was cold. The fireplace in the casita worked once and then the pilot went out. No one knew how to light and keep it lit. Where was that property manager????? Only one of the two DVD players worked and only after a neighbour helped to set it up. The beds were uncomfortable. Ms. Green claimed that we left baked-on grease on the stove elements. We seldom cooked and it seems that if, as Ms Green says, there was grease on the stove that this is the maid's responsibility as supposedly her services were included. Ms Green kept 40% of our security deposit because of grease on the stove and because towels had blown off the 'terrace' (it could not be called a 'terrace' - it was a roof). How can towels blow away from a rooftop? Major issues for any house are comfort - warmth, bedding, cooking. As mentioned above these were beautiful to look at but useless. In my way of thinking nothing should have been deducted for the trivial things mentioned by the owner - especially as one was the maid's responsibility and other was questionable. Were the towels solid gold?
Two blocks to the Jardin; 1 block from the Instituto (where many go for art or language classes); and 1/2 block to the park and grocery store.
Other Activities: Biking, 4wheelers for rent, health/beauty spa, hot air ballooning, hiking, shopping
