San Diego offers a vast array of activities enjoyed all year with its moderate climate: sailing, biking, swimming, surfing, fishing, golfing, skating and people watching along the boardwalk, are a few. More is offered for just a short drive: Sea World, San Diego Zoo, Legoland, Major Shopping, Gambling Casinos GasLamp District, Antique District, Seaport Village, Old Town San Diego, Outlet Malls, Del Mar Race Track and more.
I really enjoyed staying at this property. First, the owners were unbelievably nice and very accomodating. The condo itself was very comfortable, clean, and the view was absolutely unbeatable!!! I loved waking up hearing the waves crashing outside, smelling the clean ocean air, and watching the dozens of surfers out there every single day. I plan on staying at this same location any time I find myself traveling through San Diego. I would recommend this property to anyone!! There were plenty of restaraunts, stores, and nightlife within walking distance, no car needed. Absolutely no complaints, just an overall wonderful experience!
Remember location, location, location. This condo is in the Capri by the Sea Complex at Pacific Beach. The owner provided prompt service. The listing was accurate. I would say the furniture is a bit dated, however for the price-this condo was a great deal! Check out the rates at other 1 bedroom units at the Capri or look into the rates at the Pacific Terrace Hotel, which is on the other side of the street.
Upon arrival the security guy said we weren't on the books so he requested my "paperwork". Fortunately, I had printed and brought with me our emails. Even then he didn't check us in because he said he didn't have a key. He tried tracking the owner down (which he eventually did) to find out what to do. Meanwhile my large family sat waiting in the truck. We had just arrived from a very long drive from Colorado. It took 35 minutes to check in. We ended up with the master key as the other was never found.
Our first night we had purchased a bunch of frozen food to feed the kids. When I attempted to heat it for them the microwave threw sparks and make loud electrical noises. I unplugged it and we were unable to use it.
Our first morning I woke to discover the coffee pot was broken.
The toilet had issues flushing.
The batteries in the tv remotes were dead.
I spoke with the front desk who were very nice but explained that we were staying in a owner's rental and that Maintenance could not fix our issues. Despite that, the maintenance man brought us a spare coffee pot and batteries for the remote.
Next morning I woke to discover the loaner coffee pot was also not working...
We went out for the day and I received my first call from from the owner about the broken items at 4:30pm. The owner apologized and said she ordered a microwave but they couldn't install it until Saturday (our departing day).
I asked if maintenance might have a loaner. They did thankfully.
Saturday morning as we were making breakfast for all the kids the guy installing the microwave showed up to install the microwave. I told him I was in the middle of using the kitchen and asked if he could come back later. He said he'd come back in 15 minutes but had to do it then because he had a full day of installs. We had to rush around to finish breakfast and get our stuff out of the way for when he returned.
I appreciated staying in a condo right on the beach but we really had to do more roughing of it then we wanted to. I had to keep telling my husband and kids, "Let's just make the best of it."
The owner apologized for our inconveniences and said she would compensate us when she sent our deposit. I sent her an email that included all the above issues to remind her of the compensation she promised. She never responded to my email and sent only the deposit. That took 4 weeks...
VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!! This rental is in dire need of a cleaning staff that does their job!!! The bedroom blinds need to be replaced (anyone staying at this location could walk by and look in as the bedroom window faces the hall where residents/guests walk) I was 1 adult with my daughter and her friend. I had intended on my daughter and her friend being able to utilize the bedroom as their place to sleep however, that was not an option given that the blinds did nothing to serve their purpose. I found dirty q-tips on the night stand, in the bathroom, in the kitchen and in the living space .... GROSS!!!!
I looked at a lot of properties from Oceanside to San Diego, and, "A Haven Away" was perfect!
My wife and I needed a quiet weekend, just the two of us, and really wanted a full panoramic view of the ocean and this "Haven" delivered! The photos are accurate - the view is spectacular!
The condo was immaculate, the furnishing are very comfortable and the kitchen has everything you need if you decide to bring your own food, which we did.
The TV and DVD player worked great. The security is state of the art.
The beach is right there! The sunsets are outstanding. Easy walk to the grocery store or restaurants.
We would highly recommend this condo to anyone who loves to see the ocean and wants to stay in a great, very clean place.
Thanks Nancy and Rich! We hated to leave, and would love to come back!

I and 3 other women stayed in this condo for a long weekend getaway and had a wonderful time. The security is open 24/7 which was nice since our flight was very delayed. The condo is quiet and the location is perfect - right on Pacific beach near shops and restaurants. Assigned parking space is convenient. We could see and hear the ocean perfectly from the condo. Nancy and Rich were very responsive and easy to work with. I received my security deposit back very quickly.
