If you're looking for a quality, spacious vacation home to rent, this is for you. We had two families in this house and our four children (ages 14, 11, 10, 6) absolutely loved it. The small nooks in the top of the lighthouse were excellent sleeping areas for them. The house has almost everything you need short of internet. Thanks to Deb for adding the gas grill prior to our arrival. We used it all the time.
Having the beach a few steps away was great. Don't be mistaken, the house does not have exclusive rights to the beach. The beach is for the whole private community of Red Point. Also when we were there, there wasn't much being done to clear the beach of the daily seaweed, sticks etc. I think they swept the beach and boat launch on Friday. But we made do with no problem. Because wasn't much cleaning, we opted for water sandals for the few sticks and stones in the water. With that in mind we used the beach 4 or more hours a day every day. Also we couldn't find more than 2 or 3 other people using the beach Monday through Thursday. In fact we shared the shore with more hawks than people. It turns out that Red Point and the village of North East are more of a weekend vacation area. Which leads me to the next point. If you want a lot of excitement, nightlife, amusement parks, stuff like that, you may want to look elsewhere. That's not to say you can't get good food at a local restaurant. We have a few good meals in town. The village also has a few gift shops, etc. But it isn't a tourist trap by any means.
In short the pluses are an awesome house, beach 30 feet away, a quiet non tourist town, state park 5 minutes away, fishing off the dock and unbelievable sunsets. The only non perfect part of this was the beach wasn't cleaned on a daily basis. It was still very useable and should not deter you if you want a wonderful quiet vacation.
