Dining al fresco and sunsets from the mirador
Casa Piña SMA’s focal point is the central patio with a large stone fountain in the middle. The south-facing “outdoor” living room and dining room is a year-round favourite with all guests. Another table in the cactus garden at the rear of the house provides an al-fresco dining option.
At sunset, the rooftop mirador is the best spot in the house to start the evening in style or to reflect on the day’s events as the sky lights up in a coulurful display and sun disappears behind the distant mountains.

The third bedroom sits atop the the second bedroom but is a full story up from the master bedroom suite. I'm the leasing agent for this exceptional property... It is only on very rare occasions that the property is available to rent... in fact it is only available for October OR November of 2002, being rented straight through until Dec. 1 of 2003 already. What's so remarkable about this home? Three things: The location is unbelievable, the help (including a full time maid and a full time cook) are very attentive, and the home is furnished with valuable antiques and has a wonderful feel to it, especially the outside, south-facing living/dining room...everyone's favorite room. Hope you can come for one of the two months that it's still available. Judy
My family and I have stayed in Casa Pina twice in the last few years; the house and the location are remarkable. We have stayed in other homes in San Miguel but the house on Aldama has been the best, it makes the SMA experience even more memorable.
For charm, serenity and location, Casa Piña exceeds all expectations. It is in the heart of the Centro, 2 blocks from the luxury Rosewood hotel where one is welcome to use pool and spa on a daily basis. The interior gardens and outdoor living room are magical. The owner has created an elegant, comfortable and authentic home for visitors. The cook and housekeeper are wonderful. We can't wait to go back.
We've been to San Miguel many times, and have stayed in boutique hotels and rented houses. Casa Piña was the best location, a fabulous home, and has a wonderful staff. The location could not be more convenient. The proximity to the jardín means no long climb up the hill at the end of the day, and it's easy to make a quick trip out to a variety of shops and restaurants. As another reviewer noted, the beds were very comfortable, which is a huge plus! The grounds are immaculate and beautiful. The staff is exceedingly helpful, and the food was great. The cook will prepare dinner from a menu upon request, and leave it warming in the oven or stay to serve you, for a very reasonable cost. Much more intimate and a great deal less expensive than going out, so it's a great option.
We arrived with another couple to Casa de Pina on 8/19/14 to stay for 5 days. We had not been in San Miguel previously. When we arrived we were entranced by the visual presentation of the home; stone, arches, beautiful staircase, open living room with a fireplace all surrounded by plants & garden scents. The master has 2 bathrooms which is a wonderful convenience. The beds were so comfortable which is quite rare. The housekeeper & cook were so much fun & the food was amazing. Guadalupe presented us with a gorgeous fruit plate each morning followed by our requested meal. Everything was an easy access & we enjoyed walking everywhere. Overall it was a very relaxing trip but 5 days was definitely not long enough.
We truly feel blessed to have stumbled upon Casa Pina on VRBO. We were four women traveling to San Miguel to take cooking classes, explore and relax. Our 9 days at Casa Pina were unforgettable. The house could not be more centrally located, the cook and house keeper were very sweet and welcoming and the house itself is a hidden gem behind it's beautiful wooden doors. It was such a treat to enjoy a beautiful breakfast every morning, go explore the city until 1 or 2 and come home to a spotless house with a yummie lunch awaiting us! I would book Casa Pina again in a heartbeat and highly recommend it!
Casa Piña SMA is at the start of Aldama, a picturesque, cobblestone, residential street that leads away from the back wall of la Parroquia, San Miguel's main church located on el Jardin, the town's central square. The chic restaurants, bars and rooftop terraces of hotels Matilda and Rosewood are a just two blocks away, on el Parque Benito Juarez, San Miguel's Central Park, if you will. El Centro Historico is at your doorstep, everything's within walking distance-- really.
