Capri House Rental Photos and Description
4 Bedroom, 3 Bathroom Home Tucked Away On The Jewel Of Capri
A petite island south of the Sorrento Peninsula, Capri might be Italy’s hidden treasure. But despite its delicate size, its stature is anything but small, and many voyagers make the 40-minute hydrofoil trip from Naples to take in its gentle pace and fine heritage. Its Roman ruins, dazzling grottos and elegant boutiques are equally attention-worthy – all visible from its panoramic promenades, raised high above sea level – and you can cross the whole island in under two hours on foot. But, wise to its mountainous terrain, hurried explorers might prefer to take the funicular, an impressively inclined cable railway system that traverses Capri’s crests and troughs. Monte Solaro is the nearest to Via Matermania. From its lofty vantage point you might pick out a piazza to descend to for a cold glass of white wine, or a quiet bistro for frutti di mare.
You’ll find Via Matermania close to Capri’s central hub, only a short walk to Piazza delle Noci, where there are spectacular views of the famous cliff arch. And on the elongated terrace, which spans the home’s length, you’ll find plenty of places from which to admire both sea- and landscapes – there’s a well-proportioned dining table, an intimate bistro set for two, and a sumptuous wooden sofa to choose from.
Italy’s airports are well-placed for Capri: from Rome Fiumicino you can be at Via Matermania in three hours, but Naples is closer. From Naples International, travel the short distance to Molo Beverello and catch a ferry to Marina Grande, Capri’s main dock. The Piazza Umberto is easily accessible by taxi, bus or funicular, and from here you can walk to the home in just eight minutes.
Your host helps Italian enterprises and start-ups navigate towards success – no surprise then that his home is all crisp lines and bright, well-planned spaces. The pared-back palette speaks of languid afternoons on the beach, the walls light as sunshine and the shelves dotted with intriguing marine curios. Cast open the elegantly shuttered doors that punctuate the open-plan living area, and let the sea breeze flow over the sophisticated artworks and furnishings, or head beyond them to the well-positioned terrace. Each bedroom is welcoming, from the sophisticated master with its driftwood mirror to the double with its chic ensuite. But be sure to get better acquainted with the nearby beach and harbour – your host recommends a boat ride to the famous ‘Blue Grotto’ – and pick at least one of the island’s stellar restaurants: La Capannina, Le Grotelle and Bar Tiberio are favourites. Or, if history and architecture are more appealing, Villa Jovis and Certosa di San Giacomo (a Roman villa and 14th century monastery) are less than 20 minutes’ walk from home.
