Getting to the beach!

Although beautiful Moody Beach is only 0.5 miles away as the crow flies, it is about a 14 minute walk (.7 miles). We find the easiest walking route is to take a right onto Cranberry St., left onto Cable St., right onto Sassafras St., left onto Dike St., right onto Bourne Ave. and follow to the end. Our beach carts make it easy to bring small coolers, blankets, chairs, umbrellas etc. if you choose to walk. No parking is available near public access for the beach area at the end of Bourne Ave. The nice thing about the lack of public parking is that the beach is usually uncrowded because private property abuts either side. Please respect private property rights which in Maine end at the low tide water mark. You may walk, fish or watch birds between the high and low tide water marks of private property though. As the law, which goes back to the 1600’s when Maine was part of Massachusetts is written, “Private property shall end at the mean low tide water boundary and access without permission of owners is a violation except for the purposes of navigating, fishing or fowling.” We have a tide clock and have provided tide tables to make it easy to determine the tide level throughout each day.

Parking is available at 4 Town of Wells beach lots for an hourly fee ($2.50) via new meters installed in 2012. The meters accept credit/debit cards and coins only, no bills. The meters can be found in each lot centrally located. After paying for the time you select, a ticket is dispensed that you put inside your car on the dashboard so that it is visible. See the Town of Wells section of this binder and also page 11 of the Wells Guide book. There is also parking at nearby Ogunquit Beach (take right onto Ocean Ave. at end of Bourne Ave.) but the rates are very high. Another option is for one person to drive back & forth, drop off and walk back. Then again, there always is the trolley that can be boarded on Rt. 1 at the Majestic Regency motel, which goes to Ocean Ave. via Eldridge Rd. and returns via Mile Rd. Refer to the trolley schedule inside front cover.

Beach and yard items we do provide.: We have 5 beach chairs, 2 umbrellas, 2 beach carts, a blanket, a small portable cooler, mini surf boards, inflatable swimming rings and a few games such as paddle ball, bocce, ring toss, whiffle balls/bat, soccer balls and frisbees. There are also five Adirondack style lawn chairs with small tables and ottomans for sitting out in the yard.
