Getting to the beach!

Although beautiful Moody Beach is only 0.5 miles away as the crow flies, it is about a 14 minute walk (.7 miles). We find the easiest walking route is to take a right onto Cranberry St., left onto Cable St., right onto Sassafras St., left onto Dike St., right onto Bourne Ave. and follow to the end. Our beach carts make it easy to bring small coolers, blankets, chairs, umbrellas etc. if you choose to walk. No parking is available near public access for the beach area at the end of Bourne Ave. The nice thing about the lack of public parking is that the beach is usually uncrowded because private property abuts either side. Please respect private property rights which in Maine end at the low tide water mark. You may walk, fish or watch birds between the high and low tide water marks of private property though. As the law, which goes back to the 1600’s when Maine was part of Massachusetts is written, “Private property shall end at the mean low tide water boundary and access without permission of owners is a violation except for the purposes of navigating, fishing or fowling.” We have a tide clock and have provided tide tables to make it easy to determine the tide level throughout each day.

Parking is available at 4 Town of Wells beach lots for an hourly fee ($2.50) via new meters installed in 2012. The meters accept credit/debit cards and coins only, no bills. The meters can be found in each lot centrally located. After paying for the time you select, a ticket is dispensed that you put inside your car on the dashboard so that it is visible. See the Town of Wells section of this binder and also page 11 of the Wells Guide book. There is also parking at nearby Ogunquit Beach (take right onto Ocean Ave. at end of Bourne Ave.) but the rates are very high. Another option is for one person to drive back & forth, drop off and walk back. Then again, there always is the trolley that can be boarded on Rt. 1 at the Majestic Regency motel, which goes to Ocean Ave. via Eldridge Rd. and returns via Mile Rd. Refer to the trolley schedule inside front cover.

Beach and yard items we do provide.: We have 5 beach chairs, 2 umbrellas, 2 beach carts, a blanket, a small portable cooler, mini surf boards, inflatable swimming rings and a few games such as paddle ball, bocce, ring toss, whiffle balls/bat, soccer balls and frisbees. There are also five Adirondack style lawn chairs with small tables and ottomans for sitting out in the yard.

Guestbook comments from the owner
From the "Never Moody Here" Journal with the permission of our guests:

Thank you so much for your wonderful donation to John's fund. We were so lucky and thankful to have won the weekend! Your house is special and all of us enjoyed it! There was something for everyone to do and enjoy AND "Maggie" (their Husky) especially appreciated being with us. We experienced Ogunquit & the Marginal Way & Lord's Harborside as well as Kennebunkport, which we all really liked. The views are spectacular.

This is a new find for us and we now love this area. The beaches are wonderful for both kids and dogs. Maggie "smiled" the whole time she was walking at the beach. It was just the perfect getaway that our family needed! We hope we didn't leave too much of a mess. Thanks again!

p.s. We loved watching the birds & Maggie loved watching the chipmonks!

Note from Tom & Kate:

This very appreciative family has booked a long weekend in September 2014 and we're very happy to have them return!

Kate & I grew up in the suburbs of Boston We met at our respective best friends' wedding in 1968 and married in 1970. We have one daughter and two grandchildren. Tom retired from Analog Devices in 2009 and Kate retired from Tyco Intl. in 2012. We've lived in Norwood MA since 1973. We stay at 'Never Moody Here' whenever we can, which is mostly when our guests are not there.

Tom/Kate purchased this house in 2005

We honeymooned on Wells Beach in 1970 and have been vacationing in the Wells area ever since. Kate has relatives in York and Cape Neddick and until recently a great aunt lived around the corner on Cable St.

A 13 minute walk to the beach from a quiet neighborhood on a street that dead ends at the Ogunquit River, all the while surrounded by the Rachel Carson National Wildlife Preserve. We can do most of the shopping we need to by taking the scenic route along the ocean and avoiding Rt. 1 but, if we have to, there's a traffic light between the house and Rt. 1. The sunroom and large living room 'got us' when we first saw the house. Also, the two fireplaces, 1st floor washer/dryer and built in china cabinet closed the deal.

Theres no place like home...except for at "Never Moody Here" !!!
This was our second stay at this fabulous rental.
We are a bit obsessive about cleanliness and have never found anyplace to be to our high standards...until coming here!!!
The home is clean, perfectly laid out, roomy, and has all the comforts of home. You can tell the owners put alot of thought and pride into their home.
The spot is perfect...within walking distance to the beach, surrounded by fabulous restaurants and oodles of shopping:)
We hope to continue coming for years to come...

Great location and nice home.

  • 5 of 5
Was in a great location and quiet neighborhood. The owners were very helpful with directions and giving us lots of info for our stay. Home was very clean and organized. We loved the whole house but especially the sunroom and backyard. Only negative was the futon was a little hard. Maybe could use a padded mattress cover on it. Our dog seemed comfortable and enjoyed the fenced in yard. We loved the house and the owners were great. We booked another week before we even left.

Owner's Response: This was a first for us. A new guest booking a future stay in the same season (September '14) while still at the house 5/30/14-6/2/14! We have noted their suggestion about the futon and will be taking care of it this week. We are very pleased these guests obviously appreciate the amenities we offer. We strive to keep all our guests happy because it is the best advertising!

Dear Tom & Kate,

Thank you very much for the wonderful stay in your lovely home! Despite our somewhat "complicated" planning between our Rhode Island & Floridian party, you made it seamless and everything went off w/o a hitch! : )

Mom will remember her 76th Birthday Weekend in Maine fondly, as we all will. We hope to stay with you again - "60 Spring St" - We couldn't ask for a more perfect respite : )

Many Thanks & Kindest Regards.

wonderful vacation week!

Tom & Kate,
This was our first time renting a house in Maine and we were so very happy
staying here! You both were so helpful with the tour and the information you
gave us for directions and restaurants. etc. We found the house to be very
clean and well stocked. It had such a homey feel and it was wonderful being
such a short distance from the beach. Our favorite was "the Sun Room". We
enjoyed relaxing with our family and our dogs.

We look forward to making this a yearly tradition!

Fondly,
Mary & Family

p.s. Happy 43rd Anniversary!

Owner's Response: Once again it is nice to have a guest take the time to tell everyone about their stay at our vacation home. When our efforts are rewarded this way, it is better than receiving a thank you note, it is a gift!

Great home in a great location

  • 5 of 5
We had a lovely time in this home. It is close to everything, shopping, restaurants, and the beach. Best part is we can bring our fur babies! They loved running around in the fenced in back yard.
The house was very clean and had everything you could need.
Definitely recommend getting up early to catch the sunrise on Moody Beach, it's gorgeous!!

Owner's Response: There is a photo of a Moody Beach sunrise taken by a guest several years ago in the dining room. I mentioned it in passing when we were discussing things to do that are unique to the area. The guests did not seem keen on getting up at 5:00 am to see the sunrise. I'm glad they took my recommendation and apparently they are too! They also visited Perkins Cove for the first time and loved it. Thanks folks for the great feedback!

Wonderful vacation home!

  • 5 of 5
How very pleased we were when we arrived to find this exceptionally clean, comfortable, very spacious, and fully equipped vacation home. The location is great, in a lovely quiet neighbourhood. The main and first attraction for us was being allowed to bring not one, but two, doggies!!! Zoey and Millie enjoyed their very first ever trip to the oceanside! They also relaxed in the fantastic sun room and also, ran around in the fenced back yard. A cute little chipmunk has taken up residence back there, and can be spotted frequently. Check the plastic tubing, coming down from the downspout!

We were very lucky to have a full week of sunny weather, so we did alot of exploring both by foot and by car. We went to Perkins Cove, the beach at Drake's Island, the Harbour, the Rachel Carson Wildlife Conservatory, Kennebunk Port, Ogunquit, etc.etc. And of course, Moody BEACH!!! Ah, the beach....love it~ Peaceful, uncrowded, breathtakingly gorgeous! One of our discovers was a small trailer set up on a little incline right on the main road where a guy has just recently opened a little "LOBSTER ROLL" restaurant. Absolutely FANTASTIC, for $13 you get the most delicious, fully loaded, FRESH lobster roll, we've ever tasted! When he is open, he has colorful flags flapping in the wind. Worth the price and the stop.

Tom and Kate are excellent hosts, ensuring that all needs and wants are met. There is information galore displayed on the dining room table, and they are always just a phone call away, if need should arise. I absolutely would recommended this vacation home.

Our experience there was nothing but pleasant, relaxing, enjoyable and as another "reviewer" mentioned, the only time we were moody....was when our time was up!!!

One final comment: Thank you Tom and Kate, for having the insight to welcome dogs into your home. I am sure that many folks have experienced the frustration of trying to find suitable "pet-friendly" accommodations, and also, of finding a place that will let you leave your dogs behind for a while. Some places let you bring your dog, but don't want you to leave them "home alone". How silly is that?! Doggies simply CANNOT always come with!!!! On that note, Zoey and Millie say a big, sincere thank you, as well!

To anyone remotely considering this vacation home in the future, go for it, you will not regret it~

Owner's Response: We could not have said it better ourselves! Our goal has always been to provide a place where our guests can rest and relax at the house and local beaches, or enjoy and explore all Wells, Ogunquit and Kennebunkport has to offer. These guests did a lot of both! The best part of course is to have the whole family along because we believe your dogs are part of the family. Hope to see you folks next year!
