Beautiful ocean front condo

  • 5 of 5

My family stayed in Helen's beautiful condo in Hali'i Kai in March 2015 and we couldn't have been happier with our stay. The location is perfect -- ocean front and less than a minute walk to the pool and restaurant.

There is fantastic whale watching from the lanai (the spot must be known for whale watching because we observed many whale watching boats directly in front of the condo). And the beautiful sunsets can't be beat.

The bar/restaurant served great food and drinks and the pool was kid friendly. There is an area in the pool where the depth is about as deep as a first step in a pool and our infant son greatly enjoyed splashing and playing while seated, like he does in the bath.

Hali'i Kai provides resort-like amenities without the over-crowdedness of a resort. And I don't think many resorts have rooms as close to the ocean as Helen's condo at a reasonable price considering the condo provides a fully-stocked kitchen. And with an infant who goes to sleep around dinner time, a condo is a must.

Finally, Helen was very responsive and helpful, and provided excellent restaurant recommendations. We ended up eating at Sansei in the Queen Shops, twice. Excellent food and service, with great early-bird pricing.

In a Word: Spectacular!

  • 5 of 5

Not only did this condo have everything we needed to enjoy our vacation, the view was simply gorgeous. Everything was exactly as advertised. If you come during whale season, which we did, you will literally see dozens of whales from the lanai, and if you listen at night when it's calm you can even hear them spouting.

This unit was also super close to the pool/Ocean Club. Some of the units are so far from the pool you would probably have to drive. One of my favorite things was that there is a walking path that goes from the south side of the pool area, around the golf course and over to the Hilton. We loved walking around there in the mornings and seeing all of the sea life that hangs out in the lagoon (turtles, eel, lots of fish).

We brought my 90-year-old grandmother with us and this unit was perfect for her in that it was ground level and the master shower is a walk-in with a bench. Also helped that we could pull the car up close to the door so she wouldn't have to walk far.

This was really a great introduction to the Big Island and I guarantee that we will stay in 13C again the next time we visit. Great communication with the owners from booking all the way through the end of our trip. Really felt they wanted everything to be perfect for us and they also provide a lot of great tips for places to eat and things to do. Big mahalo to Helen & Ed!

Truly Oceanfront

  • 5 of 5

This condo is great and is exactly as advertised – truly oceanfront. We watched the whales every morning from the lanai while drinking Kona coffee, and fell asleep every night to the sound of the waves and cool ocean breezes (we neither needed nor used the air conditioning – we were so happy to have the sea breeze and the sound of the waves).

Hali’i Kai is upscale and quiet. The grounds are beautifully maintained. The pool is fancy.

Condo #13C is quite nice and furnished with attractive wood furniture. The master bathroom is very roomy, with “his and her” sinks. The WiFi/broadband worked great.

We grilled most nights on the community gas grill at the pool, just a minute or two walk from this condo. That was not inconvenient, especially because we let grilled meat rest a few minutes before serving. The kitchen appliances are deluxe (Sub Z frig, Wolf range). There are enough pots and pans and utensils to prepare a simple meal -- we sautéed ono one night – but we love to cook at home so of course we have many more kitchen tools at home than we found in the condo.

In the Waikoloa Beach Resort, we’ve also stayed in Kolea. Kolea condos are more luxurious – Kolea condos have lots of marble and exotic wood – and also larger. But we prefer Hali’i Kai #13C because it is oceanfront, not oceanview like the Kolea condos. (I see marble and exotic wood every morning when I walk into my own home’s master bathroom, but my own home is not anywhere near any ocean, and is also not anywhere near the tropics.) There is an enormous difference between oceanfront and oceanview if you want to see whales, hear and smell the ocean, and really capture aloha spirit – and Hali’i Kai #13C is oceanfront.

Owner Helen was very responsive during the rental process, and called to make sure everything was okay after we checked in, but we never needed any help – condo was very clean, and everything in the condo worked as it should.

Hali’i Kai #13C is where we intend to stay next time we’re on the Big Island.

Amazing View

  • 5 of 5

We have been to the big island 3 times but this was our first stay in Hali'i Kai. The condo is in great shape and very clean but the best was the support of Helen for anything that was needed. It was hard for me to write and send a check and trust when I showed up I would have a room but Helen made us feel at ease. My wife loved getting up every morning and watching for whales breaching as I check my e-mails before we headed out each day. We grilled every other day and the pool is perfect for kids and adults. The sunset from the pool area was amazing. I am very hard to please and work in customer service and I rate this place a 5.

Back Again!!

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from our 2nd trip to the Big Island, both trips we have stayed in unit 13c. That in itself should say it all. We enjoyed ourselves so much on our 1st trip we immediately rebooked our 2nd trip, and if that does not say it all, we are booked to return in February. We are enjoying the Big Island and Unit 13c so much!

Helen is amazing , she is so helpful and caring. The unit is fantastic stocked with everything you would need. The location of 13c is the best, close to the pool, beach and walking trails. Some units a fair distance from the pool and beach and you will be doing some walking!

We are looking forward to February and seeing the Whales!!!

Beautiful Condo

  • 5 of 5

We had another fun filled visit to the Big Island and Hali'i Kai. We love being so close to the water and watched dolphins playing in the ocean nearly every day. The pool is so close by and there were so many happy families enjoying their time. Despite being so busy, we never heard anyone once we stepped inside the condo. We enjoy the private nature of the complex and the great location. We will recommend this condo to anyone traveling to the Big Island and hope to return again soon.
