Date of Stay: August 2008
Our family of 5 adults and 2 boys aged 8 and 5 thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Windimere in early August. This was our 6th summer visit to MDI and there was general agreement that this was the best of all the places we had stayed in past years. The web page gave a very good introduction to the house but could not do it complete justice. Bob, the owner, was very welcoming and helpful. It was reassuring to know that he was available during the day at the B&B directly in front. The boys loved the yard which was plenty big enough for running around. There were toys, books and games in their room which kept them very happy while inside. Most of the day was spent enjoying the trails of Acadia but it was nice to have contented children in the evening. And contented adults too - the large screen TV was a great relaxer as was the spa tub. We all slept extremely well and appreciated staying in such attractive and well maintained surroundings. We all also enjoyed being able to walk around town at will - to church, to the supermarket, to restaurants, the Shore Path, and most importantly to the wonderful Explorer buses which would take you just about anywhere on the island. When you did need to drive, the biggest benefit to Windimere's location became apparent to me - you were able to take a right hand turn out of the driveway and - with very little effort and stress - avoid the center of town entirely. I loved it. One last word about weather. This was the rainiest week we had ever experienced in BH. It kept no one inside for very long but two places to visit which are very close to Windimere are the Historical Society and the Library. Both are excellent and well worth a visit even when the sun shines.
