I'm happy to provide a review for this cabin. In mid-October 2008, husband and I along with our golden retriever spent 3 glorious days at Blue Ridge Hideaway. Tucked away in the woods, but extremely easy to get to, the cabin provided us with seclusion, woodsy views, and a wonderfully romantic place to escape from our busy lives and decompress. Even a day of rain couldn't dampen our spirits, we just opened a bottle of wine, sat by the roaring fire (it was chilly) or on the covered porch and talked, cuddled, snacked and watched movies all day. The cabin is big enough for 2 adults & a couple of kids. More than that, I believe it would be a little "cozy". The ambience and decor is exceptional. If you want a place with majestic views overlooking the mountains, I have to admit, this is not the place for you. If you want peace and tranquility that's conveniently located to the Parkway, than this IS the place.
Pet-friendly, that's an understatement. Our golden was right at home resting on the front or back porch, watching all the critters in the woods and just enjoying the cool, autumn weather. Since both porches are gated, we were at ease that she would not run away if she happened to see something worth checking out. There's plenty of "green space" for your pet to run around, play ball, and the morning walks in the woods are beautiful.
We would definitely suggest that if you rent the Hideaway, you do make it a point to check out West Jefferson. There are some very interesting places to keep you busy for a couple of hours. Also, for one of the most beautiful drives in autumn, and I'm not talking about driving the busy Parkway, I suggest taking the scenic drive from West Jefferson to Sparta - through the rolling hills and Christmas Tree Farms. Along the way, visit the wineries and make some friends. Also, check out the New River State Park--also dog friendly--Baylee loved the river and we plan to go back to camp and canoe.
The cabin has a lot of literature about the area as well as books, movies, and a computer w/internet access - if you just have to stay connected.
Karla makes it so easy - she keeps in touch and makes sure that you are comfortable and you have everything you need. If you must get in touch with her, she is available via cell or email.
This was a present to my husband for his 48th Birthday and he told me "Honey, you did good"! That's all I needed. Do we recommend Blue Ridge Hideaway - we most certainly do!
